LeRoy William Strating

LeRoy William Strating, Grand Forks, ND peacefully passed from this life on September 15, 2008 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, ND, surrounded by the family he so selflessly and lovingly took care of. LeRoy was born in LaMoure, ND to William and Molly (Buchfinck) Strating on 17 May 1948. LeRoy grew up on a farm near Berlin, ND and attended “country school” before attending Edgeley High School and Wahpeton State School of Science. LeRoy and Joan C. Ruhn were united in marriage in February 1971 at Peace Lutheran Church in Aberdeen, South Dakota. From that marriage he fathered eight children. LeRoy served his country in the Army National Guard for 6 years. In 1971, LeRoy started Strating Bobcat Service. He worked in Edgeley, ND as a Lineman with REA and in 1975 he started Strating Construction. LeRoy moved his business to Grand Forks in 1997, where he continued to live and work the rest of his life. LeRoy was preceded in death by 4 sons and 1 daughter; his parents, William Edward and Molly Christina Buchfinck Strating and his sister, Diane Strating. He is still a hero and best friend to the mother of his children, Joan C. Strating, Devils Lake and his three living daughters, Shannon LaRae Strating of Flasher, ND, Susie LeAnn Strating-Schemionek of Devils Lake and Shaina LaRissa Strating who is a student at UND in Grand Forks, ND as well as a natural sister he was proud to be reunited with later in his life, Helen Joy Hilson. LeRoy’s life was marked by dignity, love, kindness, generosity and hard work. LeRoy took great pride in his family and his work. He is greatly loved and greatly missed.
