Joseph “Joe” G. Hager, 66 of Elysburg, Pennsylvania formerly of the Lake Region area, died suddenly, Saturday, June 20, 2009 in the emergency room at Shamokin Area Community Hospital.
Joseph George Hager was born in Devils Lake, ND on November 14, 1942, the son of George and Magdelena (Mosset) Hager. Joe attended school in Tokio, ND and served his country as a member of the United States Army, working as a Medical Specialist. He has been a resident of the Elysburg area for the past 40 years. Joe was a retired corrections officer and was formerly a deputy sheriff.
He was married in Tennessee on March 17, 2001 to the former Linda Fenstermacher; who survives. From 1966 to 1984, he was married to the former Mary Ann Michaelkovich, who also survives.
Joe was of the Catholic faith and was a member of the Mother Cabrini Church in Shamokin. He was a member of the Northumberland County Sheriff’s Association and a member and past president of the Keystone Fish and Game Association. He truly loved this association and many of its members were his friends. He was a continued member for 23 years with the American Legion Post #44, Northumberland.
Joe was an avid hunter and gun enthusiast. He was also skilled at reloading ammunition.
Joe his survived by his daughter, Brenda Moncrieff of Elysburg; sons, Chris Hager and his wife, Amy also of Elysburg and Joseph Hager and his wife, Sally of Paxinos, PA; Six grandchildren, Matthew Hager, Abigail Hager, Alyssa Hager, Bryce Hager, Tyler Moncrieff and Morgan Moncrieff;
His brother, Pete (Karen Peterson) Hager of Oberon, ND and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John, Edward and Albert and sisters, Elizabeth Abercrombie and Helen Kurtz.
Services in North Dakota will be held at a later date.
