Norah A. Slupe, 95 of Devils Lake, ND formerly of Arvilla and Grand Forks, ND died on Saturday evening, November 5, 2005 at the Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Norah will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel, Devils Lake. Rev. Harold Ovre, Pastor of St. Olaf Lutheran Church will officiate. Graveside Services will be held at the Arvilla Cemetery on Wednesday at 12:15 p.m. Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Norah Arvilla Williams was born on May 10, 1910 at Arvilla, ND the daughter of Richard and Mabel (Pratt) Williams. She was reared and educated in the Arvilla area and attended country school there. On May 18, 1928 Norah was united in marriage to Matthew Maier in Grand Forks. They established their home in Grand Forks. While living in the Grand Forks area, Norah worked in many restaurants as a cook. She also worked at Red River Valley Produce, she picked potatoes and worked several other jobs. Norah married Oliver Slupe on December 5, 1949 in Warren, Minnesota. They established their home in Grand Forks and also lived for a time in Montana. Oliver died on November 2, 1963. Norah continued to make her home in Grand Forks and from 1987 to 1997 she lived at the Good Samaritan Home in East Grand Forks. Due to the flooding in the Greater Grand Forks area, Norah moved to Devils Lake on May 1, 1997 where she has made her home through the years. Norah was a former member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Grand Forks. Norah was a very hard worker but she was always thankful she was able to work and provide for her family. She devoted herself to her family and was very much a part of raising her granddaughter and great grandson. She always felt that time spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren was a true blessing. Norah is survived by her Daughters: LaVern Larson, Moorhead, Minnesota Esther Carter, Barbara (Palmer) Walden, Donna Mae (Norm) Hagen-Tollefson all of Devils Lake Granddaughter, Norah raised: Debra (John) Carlson, Grand Forks Eleven Grandchildren Twenty-five Great Grandchildren Twelve Great Great Grandchildren Brother: Donald Williams of Minnesota Sister: Barbara Jenson of Oregon Many Nieces and Nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Matthew Maier and Oliver Slupe; daughter, Alice Stenberg; six grandchildren; brothers, Willard Williams and Charles Williams; sisters, Charlotte Barnell and Margaret Sordahl.
