Evelyn Frances was born on December 27, 1923 at Marion, North Dakota, one of thirteen children born to Guy C. and Martha L. (Schultz) McCommon. She grew up and was educated in Jamestown, graduating from Jamestown High School in the class of 1942. She worked at a bank in Jamestown prior to her marriage.
Evelyn met the love of her life, Lloyd George Hinschberger, at a dance in Jamestown. It was there that they danced their first dance to the song 'Sentimental Journey.' They began their own Sentimental Journey on June 20, 1946 when they were married in Minneapolis, MN. They celebrated 62 wonderful years together.
They established their home in Minneapolis and moved to Devils Lake, ND in 1958.
After all the children were in school, Evelyn worked at Carlson’s Bakery and later at their furniture store, Keatings Furniture.
Evelyn was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Altar Society and St. Ann’s and St. Rita’s Circle.
Evelyn had a passion for reading. She also enjoyed journaling and kept journals of their travels and of many special events in their lives. Music brought much joy to Evelyn. While growing up she and her sisters made music a part of both work and play.
She provided many excellent meals for her family and friends throughout the years and her baked goods and doughnuts were the best around. Some may shudder at the word, “fruit cake” but Evelyn’s fruit cake was a much anticipated holiday treat. A special treat for her grandchildren (& family) was the never empty “candy can” that she kept on her coffee table.
Evelyn’s faith told her that every day was a gift from God and especially the days when family and friends were gathered around her. She was certainly accustomed to commotion, being the mother of nine children. To her, the most precious sounds were of family chattering with four or five conversations going on all at once. She would bask in the constant commotion that swirled around her and made sure each child knew they were loved. Evelyn had a way of making each one feel they were the most special one of all. She conveyed that same love and pride to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
May she rest now in peace in God's loving arms.
Evelyn is survived by her devoted husband, Lloyd of Valley Eldercare in Grand Forks
