Ruth Mildred Goranson

Ruth M. Goranson, 90 of Devils Lake formerly of Oberon, ND died on Friday, August 07, 2009 at the Heartland Care Center in the loving care of her family. Funeral Services for Ruth will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church, Oberon, ND. Rev. Sharron Lucas will officiate and burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, rural Oberon. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, ND on Monday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Tuesday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Serving as Casket Bearers for Ruth will be Jesse Maupin, Kelly Nielsen, Casey Ulland, Ken Nielsen, Earl Ege and Gary Rude. Honorary Bearers are all of Ruth’s Nieces and Nephews. Ruth Mildred Ege, the daughter of Andrew and Anna (Lund) Ege was born on September 1, 1918 near Lunds Valley, ND where she was reared and educated, graduating from Lunds Valley High School. After receiving her two year teaching degree from Minot State College, Ruth taught in Palermo and Oberon. Ruth was united in marriage to Carl E. Goranson on June 17, 1943 in Zion Lutheran Church, Lunds Valley. They established their home in Oberon where they farmed side by side and raised their daughters. They retired in 1973 and spent many of the winter months in Arizona and Florida. In 1994 they moved to Devils Lake where they made their home through the years. Carl died on January 15, 2001. Ruth was a very active member of Calvary Lutheran Church and their women’s organization. She served as the choir director and also as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a 4-H Leader, member of the Rebekahs, Sons of Norway and also the Oberon 55 Club. Ruth enjoyed many pastimes, including gardening, sewing, knitting, crocheting, tatting and painting. She was determined to be computer literate and used the computer to keep up with happenings of friends and family. Ruth loved her faith, her family and her life, living each day with love, caring and compassion for all who were a part of her life. Ruth is survived by her daughters, Arlys Nielsen and her husband, Ken of Park River, ND; Dianne Maupin of Minot, ND Yvonne Ulland of Mayville, ND; Grandchildren: Jesse Maupin and wife, Kelli of Savage, MN~Kelly Nielsen and wife, Sherri of Fargo, ND~Casey Ulland of Duluth, MN; Great Grandchildren: Abigail Nielsen and Tyler Nielsen and Asher Maupin; Special Friend of the family: Linda Hunt of Devils Lake; Sisters: Evelyn Peterson, Mesa, AZ Thelma Hagen and her husband, Ray of Kennewick, WA Brothers: Alven Ege and his wife Evelyn of Minot Orvin Ege and his wife Olga of Crosby, ND Brother-In-Law: Fred Rude of Kenmare, ND; Many nieces, nephews and their families also survive. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl; grandsons, Kris Nielsen and Cody Ulland; sisters, Alma Schultz, Edna Rude, Alvena Ege and Eleanora Ege and brother, Eddie Ege.
