Meta Hultgren, 90 of Devils Lake formerly of Warwick, ND died on Wednesday morning, August 8, 2007 at her home. Funeral Services for Meta will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at the Warwick Lutheran Church. Rev. David Nichols will officiate and burial will be in the Warwick Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 10, 2007 at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation on Saturday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Serving as Casket Bearers for Meta will be Jerry Adams, Louie Hartle, Edwin Hartle, Gary Elfman, Verle Marsaa, Eddy Kolstad, Russell Coenen and Eddy Kraft. Music will be provided by Gail Tastad, soloist and Ellen Burthold, organist Meta Kramer was born on January 26, 1917 at Butterfield, Minnesota the daughter of Carl and Katherine (Hubin) Kramer-Katherine died when Meta was 3 ½ years old. The family moved to Hillsdale Township, Eddy County where her father homesteaded and Meta attended the Hillsdale Township Country School. Meta was united in marriage to Kenneth Hultgren on November 1, 1941 at Devils Lake. They established their home in Warwick and worked on the family farm. They lived for a year in Kennewick, Washington and after the death of Meta’s father, they returned to Warwick and owned and operated “Kenny’s Market” in Hamar for a time. Meta also worked as the janitor at Warwick Lutheran Church for 25 years. Kenny died on July 29, 1989. Meta continued to live in Warwick until moving to Devils Lake about 4 years ago. Meta had many pastimes and hobbies including quilting and embroidery and also enjoyed watching a soap opera or two on TV. In her younger years she enjoyed gardening. Priorities in Meta’s life were her faith and family. She showed her love in many ways and one way was to always make sure that her children had one of their food favorites whenever they came to visit, including lemon meringue pie and caramel rolls. Meta was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and her loving and gentle spirit will be forever missed, but forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Meta is survived by her children, Ervin Hutlgren and his wife, Susan of Warwick Eldonna Bertsch and her husband, Joe of Apple Valley, California Cheryl Kosmatka and her husband, Jim of Grand Forks Nine Grandchildren: Amy Hultgren, Jennifer (Bob) Myers, Matthew Hultgren (Megan), Brenda Bertsch, Darin (Shannon) Bertsch, Troy (Kathy) Rugroden, Theresa (Jay) Kearney, Jamie Kosmatka (Miranda) and Jennifer (LeRoy) Hutchings. Nine Great Grandchildren: Hayden Myers, Jessica Bertsch, Alex Bertsch, Calder Bertsch, Cassandra Kearney, Ashley Kearney, McKayla Kearney, Jade Strinden and Hannah Kosmatka. Many nieces, nephews and their families also survive. Meta was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenny and brothers, Eldor in infancy and Roland, killed in action during World War II.
