Arlene Ottilia Reslock was born on July 12, 1926, daughter of Clara (Lehnen) and Mathias Waldorf, Jr. at Starkweather, ND. She attended country school and graduated from High School in 1945, then attended Minot State College and taught school for two years. She moved to Devils Lake and worked for the Ann Dean’s Flower Shop and Otter Tail Power Company. Arlene married Philip Gordon Reslock on June 30, 1951 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Devils Lake, ND. Arlene and Philip lived in New Rockford, ND where daughter, Sherry Joy was born. After moving to Detroit Lakes, MN and Long Beach CA, they settled in Devils Lake, ND where the rest of their children were born: Patti Arlene, Brian Paul, and Lisa Mae. Arlene and Philip founded Reslock Printing in 1960, where Arlene was bookkeeper until Philip’s death in 2003 and son Brian had taken over operation of the business. Arlene also held other positions of employment in the Devils Lake community, including bookkeeping for Glickson’s, Drs. Otis & Wysoski, and Drs. Krein & Moen. Arlene was involved in many activities and organizations: she was a longtime member and past President of St. Gerard’s Circle of the St. Joseph Altar Society and a life member of National Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She also volunteered many hours to St. Joseph and St. Mary’s schools which were attended by all four of her children. Arlene loved teaching and playing Contract Bridge. She played regularly, attended many tournaments, attained Life Master status in the American Contract Bridge League and was a past Director of that association. Her favorite day was Thursday when she was able to play “good Bridge” with her dear bridge friends. Arlene also enjoyed walking, attending water exercise classes, baking buns and chocolate chip cookies for friends and family, spending time at the lake, traveling, reading, attending her grandchildren’s activities, and spending time with her friends, family, children and grandchildren. She felt that her most important accomplishment was raising her children in the Catholic Faith. Arlene will be remembered as a person with abounding energy and a radiant smile who always made everyone feel special. She worked tirelessly for her husband and family and will be greatly missed.
