Russel Patrick “RP” Nixon
Russel Nixon, age 64, of Glen Allen, Virginia, passed away on August 23, 2007 at the Veteran’s Hospital following a short battle with cancer.
Russ was born on September 8, 1942 in Devils Lake ND to Russel & Gladys (Nelson) Nixon. He attended grade school in Southam ND and graduated from Devils Lake Central High School in 1960.
In September of 1960, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba during the Cuban Crisis. He was discharged in August of 1963.
He married Judy Morneau on January 3, 1966 and they are the parents of three children: Jarrod, Tana and Tricia.
Russ recently retired after working many years for Martin Marietta and EDS and moved to the east coast to be closer to his children and grandchildren. One of the real joys in his life was being able to take his boat out fishing.
Russ was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles & Loretta Nixon and Gilbert & Mabel Nelson and his father, Russel Nixon.
Russ is survived by his mother, Gladys, of Devils Lake; sister; Gwen (Ken) Mukomela of Marshall MN; brothers Charles (Jan) Nixon, of Phoenix AZ, and Terry, William & James Nixon all of Devils Lake; children, Jarrod (Stephanie) Nixon of Ashland, VA, Tana (Javier) Garcia of Doswell, VA and Tricia (Scott) Borgen of Wilsonville, OR; five grandchildren, Devin, Spencer, Shea, Emery and Karina; He also survived by several aunts & uncles, nieces & nephews and cousins
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 5th at St Joseph Catholic Church in Devils Lake. Fr. Robert Pecotte will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Lake Region Color Guard.
Serving as casket bearers will be Charles Nixon, Terry Nixon, William Nixon, James Nixon, Dennis Riggin, Jack Leevers, Jerry McKibben and Ken Mukomela.
