Elizabeth Miska, 99 of Devils Lake, formerly of Knox and Michigan, ND died on Tuesday, January 2, 2007 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake, ND
Mass of Christian Burial for Elizabeth will be held on Friday, January 5, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake with Fr. Raymond Kirtz celebrating the Mass.
There will be a Graveside Service at the Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery, Tabor, Minnesota on Friday, January 5th at 2:30 p.m.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2007 at the Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel, Devils Lake from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 5:00 p.m. Visitation on Friday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass.
Serving as Casket Bearers will be Roger Voeller, Charles Voeller, Victor Schwan, Daniel Shirek, Bob Lamb and Daniel M.Traynor.
Reading the Scriptures will be Mary Frances Becker
Music will be provided by Peter A. Hager and JoDee Lagein.
Elizabeth was born on April 19, 1907 in Mallard, Iowa, the daughter of Ludwig and Mary (Kirtz) Miller. She was reared there attending St. Mary’s School in Mallard. In 1929 she moved to Warren, Minnesota. Elizabeth was united in marriage to Charles Miska on Setpember 23, 1941 at Argyle, Minnesota. They lived in Tabor, Minnesota later moving to Twin Falls, Idaho where her husband worked in a Sugar Beet Plant. Mr. Miska died in 1953. She moved to North Dakota and worked as a housekeeper for her brother, Fr. F.X. Miller while he served in parishes in Knox and Michigan, ND. He retired in 1984 and moved to Devils Lake and was the chaplain at Mercy Hospital. Elizabeth made her home at Academy Apartments and attended daily Mass at Mercy Hospital and also was the Scripture Reader at those Masses for Fr. Schue. Elizabeth lived for 2 years in Lake Country Manor and at the present was a resident of the Good Samaritan Center.
She thoroughly enjoyed playing cards and was truly a master at hand quilting. She always had a quilt in the making. She considered the staff at the Good Samaritan Center her family and was anxiously awaiting her 100th birthday. Elizabeth was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Catholic Order of Foresters.
Elizabeth’s life was a life of faith and devotion to God. May she rest in God’s peace and she asked God’s blessing on all of her dear family and friends.
She is survived by several family members and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; son, John Charles “Jackie” who died in a car accident in 1965 and is buried in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Knox, ND and brothers, John, Joseph, Ludwig and Fr. Francis X. Miller.
