Michael Rick MacArthur, 59 of Devils Lake, ND passed away peacefully at Meritcare Palliative Care in Fargo, ND surrounded by his family. He fought a courageous battle and was called home on January 13, 2007.
Funeral Services for Rick will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. Rev. Justin Schmidt will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Tuesday, January 16, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Visitation on Wednesday will also be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Rick will be Bob MacArthur, Jim LaMotte, Dave Hoffart, Dean Hovern, Scott McArthur and Bruce Berg.
Music will be provided by Sherry Kurtz and Oasis and Elonda Nord, organist
Rick was born to Gilbert and Elsie (McNaught) MacArthur on August 16, 1947 in Langdon, ND. He attended school in both Sarles and Devils Lake. He also served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1969.
On August 25, 1973, Rick was united in marriage to Betty Johnston at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. They made their home in Devils Lake with their children. Rick was a musician and has played in several bands over the years. Many of you know him as “Thin” in Thick, Thin and Chunky. Rick won many people over with his humor and his joy for life. At the time of his death, he was employed with the State Highway Department and truly loved his job. Papa Rick loved his granddaughters as they were his pride and joy. He will be dearly missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Elsie; sister, Nelda Berg and brothers, Jack MacArthur.
