Bernard P. “Bernie” Bachmeier 74 of Devils Lake, ND died on Sunday, September 16, 2007 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND. Mass of Christian Burial for Bernie will be held on Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. Dale Kinzler and Fr. Donald Leiphon will concelebrant the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Devils Lake. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel, Devils Lake on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:30 p.m. The Knights of Columbus will lead the Rosary. Visitation on Wednesday will be at the church in the Mother Theresa Hall one hour prior to the funeral Mass. Serving as Casket Bearers for Bernard will be his oldest grandchildren, Dane Bachmeier, Destiny Bachmeier, Blair Chapman, Kodie Chapman, Chelsi Chapman, Devan Dalziel, Dylan Dalziel and Brianna Bachmeier. Reading the Scriptures will be: Gift Bearers will be Bernard’s youngest grandchildren: Quinn Dalziel, Clay Bachmeier, Brynn Bachmeier, Olivia Bachmeier, Ellea Bachmeier, Carissa Bachmeier and Carsyn Bachmeier. Music will be provided by John Frelich, Peter A. Hager and JoDee Lagein Bernard Phillip Bachmeier, son of Jack and Katherine (Schell) Bachmeier was born in Noonan Township, rural Crary, ND on July 13, 1933. He received the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Communion at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, rural Crary. He was educated at Noonan Consolidated School. Bernie dedicated his life to caring and providing for his family. He worked for a time for Great Northern Railroad, Holbeck’s Water Works, Devils Lake Park and Recreation, Majestic Cleaners in the delivery service department, Bernie’s Dairy Delivery Service and most recently, Noodles by Leonardo, retiring in 1996. Bernie was united in marriage to Elizabeth “Betty” Leiphon on June 10, 1957 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, rural Crary. They established their home for a short time in Crary then moved to Devils Lake where they lived and raised their family. Bernie was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church since 1957. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Devils Lake Eagle’s Lodge. Bernie enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, spoiling them with endless candy. In his spare time he liked feeding and watching birds and caring for his and other neighborhood lawns. Bernie is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Betty Children: Bernadette Chapman and her husband, Jim of Tacoma, Washington Daryl Bachmeier and his wife, Chris of Fargo Beverly Dalziel and her husband, Todd of Devils Lake Dean Bachmeier and his wife, Amy also of Fargo Daughter-In-Law: Dawn Bachmeier of Devils Lake Grandchildren: Blair Chapman, Kodie (Lisa) Chapman and Chelsi Chapman; Brianna Bachmeier, Clay Bachmeier, Olivia Bachmeier, and Carissa Bachmeier; Devan Dalziel, Dylan Dalziel and Quinn Dalziel; Brynn Bachmeier, Ellea Bachmeier, and Carsyn Bachmeier; Dane Bachmeier and Destiny Bachmeier. Brothers: Anton (Loretta) Bachmeier, Devils Lake Wendelyn Bachmeier also Devils Lake Ralph (Alexis) Bachmeier, St. Paul, Minnesota Leonard (Marilyn) Bachmeier, Forest Lake, Minnesota Sisters: Mary (Ed) Volk Katherine Schiele both of Devils Lake Evelyn Hager of Oakdale, MN Brothers-In-Law: Fr. Don Leiphon, Napoleon, ND Stanley John Leiphon, Tulsa, Oklahoma Tom Davis of New Mexico Sister-In-Law: Joan Davis of Albuquerque, New Mexico Many Nieces, Nephews and their families also survive. Bernie was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Joseph and Douglas Bachmeier; granddaughter, Jillian Rose Bachmeier and brother, Raymond Bachmeier.
