Roy C. Jensen, 88 of Devils Lake, ND died on Friday, September 14, 2007 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Roy will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel, Devils Lake with Rev. Harold Ovre, Pastor St. Olaf Lutheran Church officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars. Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Roy, the son of Martin and Rena (Anderson) Jensen was born on November 30, 1918 at Devils Lake. He was reared and educated in Devils Lake, graduating from Devils Lake High School in 1939. He moved to Portland, Oregon for a time then returned to North Dakota and began working for the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corp). In September of 1941 he moved to Glendale, California and was employed with Lockheed Aircraft Company until he enlisted in the United States Army in 1942. He served his country during World War II as part of the Italian Campaign. He was injured near Nettuno, Italy and was the recipient of a Purple Heart for injuries he sustained in battle and later awarded two Bronze Stars for his dedicated service during the Naples-Foggia and Rome-Amo Campaigns. After Roy’s discharge in 1946, he returned to California and then moved to Washington and was in the ceramic tile business until retiring in 1965. He then teamed with his brother, Ralph and they began timbering in various locations around the country. Then Roy dedicated himself to the most important job of his life, raising his daughter, Rena. In the early 1980’s Roy returned to Devils Lake and made Devils Lake his home until the time of his death. Roy was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, the VFW, DAV and the Purple Heart Association. Roy is survived by his loving daughter, Rena Schuman and her husband, Kevin of Gilbert, Arizona Grandson: Jack Edward Schuman Granddaughter: Abby Jensen Schuman all of Gilbert, Arizona Brother: Ralph Jensen of Mesa, Arizona Sister: Amy Register also of Mesa Several nieces and nephews and their families also survive. Roy was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Melvin and Floyd Jensen; sisters, Alice James and Evelyn Schnider.
