Vivian I. Currie, 88 of Cando, ND formerly of Starkweather, ND died on Sunday, September 9, 2007 at Trinity Medical Center, Minot, ND.
Funeral Services for Vivian will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Cando, ND with Rev. Timothy McDowell officiating.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. and then visitation at the United Methodist Church in Cando from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Thursday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Vivian will be her grandsons, George Lund, Dean Borstad, Eric Currie, Justin Currie, Kent Borstad, Keegan Currie, Steve Lindquist and Matt Lindquist.
Honorary Bearers will be Vivian’s granddaughters: Laura Dease, Sue Bond, Sara Grosz and Jennifer Dougherty.
Music will be provided by Wayne Freund, soloist and Carol Sue Pederson, organist
Vivian Iola was born on October 1, 1918 in rural Starkweather to Chester and Ruth (Gill) Swartz. Vivian attended school at St. Joe, ND and graduated from Starkweather Public Schools. On January 4, 1940, she was united in marriage to L.B. Currie in her parent’s home. They made their home and farmed near Starkweather for over forty years. L.B. moved into the Towner County Living Center in Cando in 1989 and died July 1, 1992.
Vivian was an active member of the Starkweather Methodist Church, serving on the church board, UMW and teaching Sunday school for many years. She was member of the Everready Homemakers club for fifty years and a 4-H leader for twenty years.
In 1990, Vivian moved to Cando. She was a member of the Towner County Medical Center Auxiliary and served on the council for six years, treasurer of the Towner County Living Center Auxiliary for fourteen years and a very active Senior Citizen member.
Vivian enjoyed keeping her fingers busy making crafts and selling them at various craft fairs in the area. She was known for her meticulous work and was usually the oldest exhibitor at these events. She also loved playing cards with her many dear friends.
Her family was very important to her. She treasured the time spent with her children and grandchildren.

Great Grandchildren: Kayla, Brenna and Isak Dease; Madison and Hunter Borstad; George and Elizabeth Bond; Lilly and Gunnar Lund and Jaden Grosz.
Surviving In-Laws include Robert Atkins, formerly of Cando; Roland and Lee Currie of Phoenix
Several nieces and nephews and their families also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant sister; husband, L.B. and cousin Harvey Swartz.
Since Vivian willed her body to UND Medical School the committal service will be held at a later date.
