Emil Walter, 98 of Devils Lake formerly of rural Starkweather, ND died on Thursday, November 16, 2006 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Funeral Services for Emil will be held on Monday, November 20, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. Rev. Justin Schmidt will officiate and burial will be in Trinity-Bergen Lutheran Cemetery, rural Starkweather, ND.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake. Visitation on Monday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Emil Walter was born on August 30, 1908 at Dresden, North Dakota, the son of Rudolph and Susanna (Nadersanski) Walter. He was reared and educated at Munich, ND where he helped on the family farm. In 1925, he purchased a farm in Royal Township, rural Starkweather where he farmed through the years. He retired in 1975 and moved to Devils Lake.
Emil was a former member of Trinity-Bergen Lutheran Church and now a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. He served on the Royal Township Board, Ramsey County Social Service Board, Ramsey County Fair Board, the St. Joe Elevator Board and also served as a Ramsey County Commissioner.
He enjoyed fishing and gardening and truly loved to visit with friends, neighbors and family.
Emil is survived by his sister, Olga Schmeichel of Westfield, Indiana

Niece: Karen Kuiper of Benton Harbor, Michigan
Great Nieces and Nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Amelia Schrag and brother, Earl Walter.
