Joquin Robert de la Paz, 20 of Fort Totten, ND passed away on Friday, October 1, 2010 in McKenzie County, North Dakota from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Funeral Services for Joquin will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at the Fort Totten Recreation Center, Fort Totten at 10:00 a.m. Fr. Charles Leute, OP will officiate and burial will be in St. Jerome’s Catholic Cemetery, rural Fort Totten, ND. The Wake and Prayer Service for Joquin will also be at the Fort Totten Recreation Center on Wednesday beginning at 5:00 p.m. The procession to Fort Totten will leave from the Spirit Lake Casino on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. Joquin Robert de la Paz, was born June, 1, 1990 in St. Paul, MN the loving son of Francisco and Arlene (Krulish) de la Paz. The family moved back to the Spirit Lake Tribal Community in 1993. Joquin attended elementary and middle school in Devils Lake and graduated from Four Winds Community High School in Fort Totten in 2008. Joquin received an engineering scholarship to attended U.N.D. Joquin left school to join the North Dakota National Guard, Grand Forks Unit. Joquin was employed by Tru Drilling, Drill 28 in Mandaree, ND at his time of passing. Joquin loved his nieces and nephews like a father would. He was extremely proud to serve in the National Guard where he received training in technology and communications. He found his passion working as a “Roughneck” on the oil rigs in Fort Berthold, North Dakota. He really enjoyed being at home and was intrigued and excelled working with technology. Although Joquin lived a short time on this earth, he touched many lives. Joquin was a very selfless person and always put others before himself. Joquin passed suddenly and tragically October 1, 2010 in an auto accident in western North Dakota. Joquin is survived by his loving family, Parents; Frank and Arlene de la Paz, Brothers; Phil of Cass Lake, MN, Randall (Nettie), Paco, Joseph, David, Javier (Brittney), Tony Krulish (Sarah), Brian Stanley (Erica) of Munster, Indiana, Marcus Peltier, Sisters; Mena, Carolyn Mauricio, Nieces; Marissa, Laila, Veronica, Nephews; Isiah, Noah, Kellen, Phil Jr., Dawsen and Kayden, Grandparents; Cora Iceman, Irene Littlewind, Raymond Sherman, Soloman Sherman, Aunts; Rita, Linda, Bernadine, Shelly, Marcella, Trudy, Arliss, Myra, Uncles; Joey, David, Manual, Delmer, Raymond and Darren. Joquin came from a large loving family with many cousins and friends that were siblings to him. We want to thank all of our Tiospaye from Sisseton Wahpeton Tribe & Spirit Lake Tribe. The family would like to thank all who have shared your time with us, either in presence, in prayer or in thought. Your kindness and love is appreciated. If we forgot anyone it was not intentional. Serving as Casket Bearers for Joquin will be Phil Guzman, Angel Serrano, Mike Adams, Morris Azure, Oliver Dauphinais, George Stanley, William Eagle, Buddy Pipe, Cletus Foote and Sean Gourd. Honorary Bearers will be Terry Morgan and family, Marty Alex and family, Marty Greywater, Steve Cavanaugh, Sam Azure, Jake Miller, Levi Miller, Anthony Vettleson, Darren Iceman Jr., all the “Roughnecks” at Tru Drilling, Charles and Ernestine Foote and family, National Guard Unit, Grand Forks, Mandy Neeland, Ryan Brown, Sgt. Lundin and family, Linda Thompson and family, Amaris MakesGood and family and Tony and Vina McDonald and family. Music will be provided by Melissa Merrick, Dakota Express, Tony and Vina McDonald. All Drum Groups are welcome to share their music.
