Louella was born on March 31, 1913 in Litchfield, Minnesota, the loving daughter of Otto and Emma (Beckstrand) Casper. She was raised in the Sheyenne and Warwick area and attended the Rocky Mountain School #1 in rural Sheyenne. Louella married Louie Gress and he passed away only a few years after their marriage. Louella was united in marriage to Edward Papachek on September 16, 1939 in Devils Lake. Following their marriage they farmed near Hamar until moving to Warwick in 1954. Louella worked at Sioux Manufacturing in Fort Totten for seven years, retiring in 1980. Edward died on September 4, 1980. Louella continued to make Warwick her home until 1997 when she moved to Devils Lake. In September of 2008, Louella became a resident of the Heartland Care Center. Louella was an active member of the Warwick Lutheran Church and the ALCW. When her eye sight was good, she enjoyed baking, yard work, playing cards and making rugs for family and friends. She also enjoyed traveling to see family in New Hampshire and Colorado and went on several bus trips throughout the United States. She was a hard worker and maintained her big lawn until she moved to Devils Lake at the age of 84. Louella’s work ethics, integrity, dedication and family values were endearing qualities. She was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. She especially enjoyed the birthday get togethers with her nieces and sister-in-law. She will be missed by her family but her loving memories will be carried in their hearts forever. Louella is survived by her daughters, Kay McKelvey and her husband Dayton of Devils Lake and Kerry Bernier and her husband Joe of New Rockford; daughters-in-law, Shirley Papachek of Greeley, Colorado and Stella Papachek of Devils Lake; sister-in-law, Phyllis Papachek also of Devils Lake; grandchildren Kevin (Tina) Papachek of Johnstown, Colorado, Keshia (Paul) Schmidt of Evans, Colorado, Renae (Mike) Luehring of Pekin, ND, Cory (Carla) McKelvey of Devils Lake, Marsha Papachek of Mandan, ND and Deanna (Kevin) Anderson of Devils Lake; fourteen great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; special friend Nan Forest of Warwick and several nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. Special thanks to Louella’s caregivers for the compassion shown to her during her stay and to Pastor David for his many visits which she looked forward to.
