Viola M. Brown, “Een Yan Sha Win” (Red Rock Woman) 70 of Tokio, ND died at her home on Friday, September 8, 2006. Mass of Christian Burial for Viola will be held on Friday, September 15, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, St. Michael. Fr. Charles Leute, O.P. will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery. The Wake for Viola will be held at St. Michael’s Recreation Center on Thursday beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Prayer Service at 8:00 p.m. The Procession to St. Michael’s Recreation Center will leave at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday from the Wal-Mart Parking Lot. Serving as Active Casket Bearers will be: Robert Brown Sr., Alvin Brown, Kevin Brown, Robert Brown Jr., Jerry Blackbird, Jessie Cavanaugh Jr., Alan Brown, Billy Brown, Herbert BlueShield III and Melody Brown. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Margaret Garfield, Doreen McKay, Ordell Guy, Violet Smith, Alvina Bear, JoAnne Redroad, Karla Albright, Elizabeth Morgan, Cheryl GoodIron, Delores Yankton, Myra Quinn, Sylvia Hale, Mary Brown, Glen Rue Sr., Glen Rue Jr., Adam Bachmeier, Bonnie Leftbear, Cynthia Poorbear, Robin Charboneau, Irene Leftbear, Corrine Brown, Randy Denne, Perry “Box” Cavanaugh, Terry Stevens, Jr., Robert Jetty, Christine Alex, Helena Littleghost, Millie McKay, Becky Brown, Mona Leftbear, Debbie Guy, Delphine Thompson, Chuck Greywater, Verle Greywater, Leonard Lohnes, Chris Anderson, Sr., John Waanatan, Herbie Cavanaugh, Paul Cavanaugh, Sam Merrick, Vincent Shaw, Isaac Mallard, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lovejoy, Mr. and Mrs. Duane Guy, Colleen and Joey DeMarce, Julie and Roland Johnson, Louie and Jeannie Chaske, Jessie and Sherry Cavanaugh, The Black Family and All Elders of the Spirit Lake Nation. Viola Mae was born on February 7, 1936 at Fort Totten, ND the daughter of Raymond and Ida (Matohin) Mallard Sr. She attended school in Fort Totten and also the St. Michael Boarding School. Viola was united in marriage to Patrick J. Brown on February 18, 1957. They established their home in the St. Michael area living and working there through the years. Viola worked with the Green Thumb Program and also the Head Start Program at St. Michael. Viola had many hobbies and special interests including, sewing, baking, playing cards and fishing. She was famous for her delicious fry bread. She especially loved spending time with her dear family and friends. Viola is survived by her Son: Robert (Mary Ann) Brown Sr. of Tokio Daughter: Rebecca Brown also Tokio Adopted Son: Louis Chaske Special Companion: Donald “Skip” Spenst of Langdon Twenty Grandchildren Many Great Grandchildren Sister: Cynthia Poorbear, St. Michael Brothers-In-Law: Elmer Brown and Joseph Brown both of Tokio Uncle: Isaac Mallard of St. Michael Many Nieces and Nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter, Desiree Marie Brown; sisters, Elizabeth Poorbear, Betty Poorbear, Emma Poorbear and Martha Poorbear; brothers, Patrick Poorbear, Joseph Poorbear, Robert Poorbear and James Poorbear.
