Robert “Bob” Kitterman, 85 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2010 on his 85th birthday at the Good Samaritan Center with his wife and family at his side.
Funeral Services for Bob will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. Rev. Jeff Nicla will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars and North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home and on Thursday one hour prior to services in the church.
Serving as Casket Bearers will be Kenny Tollefson, Norman Morken, Richard Olson, Cory Anderson, Wade Anderson, Monte Carvell, Kevin Anderson and Dean Anderson. Honorary Casket Bearers will be all friends, neighbors, and relatives of Bob and Dorothy.
Robert was born August 29, 1925 at rural Starkweather, ND the son of Robert Sr. and Ida (Juve) Kitterman. The family later moved to Grand Harbor Township, Ramsey County. Bob attended Grand Harbor Elementary School and graduated from Devils Lake High School in 1943. Following High School Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Upon returning from the Navy in 1946, he enrolled in the North Dakota Agricultural College, now NDSU, graduating in 1950. He then taught Veteran Ag in Medina, ND for 15 months before returning to the home farm where he farmed until his retirement. He was a steward of the soil, maintained a neat farmstead and had the ability to repair most anything. One of his hobbies was restoring a 1940 B.R. John Deere tractor.
Bob was united in marriage to Dorothy Anderson of Leeds, ND on December 19, 1970. They made their home in Leeds and Grand Harbor until moving to Devils Lake in 2007. He was a devoted husband and Bob and Dorothy did most everything together.
Bob was a confirmed member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. He was a member of the Elks, V.F.W., Farm Bureau and a charter member of the Devils Lake Rural Fire Department where he served as secretary for many years.
Bob loved to read, particularly history books. “The Green”, a magazine for John Deere enthusiasts was a favorite of his. He enjoyed playing cards, watching the Twins, Vikings and keeping up with state and local sports.
Bob is survived by his wife Dorothy; sisters, Clarise Olson of Encinitas, CA and Ruby Ginther of Falbrook, CA; nephews, Richard Olson, David Ginther and nieces Susan Raymond and Robin Taylor all of CA; special cousins Joyce Jarombek of Grand Forks, Clara Skjei of Eau Claire, WI and Ray Millard of Rush City, MN.
Dorothy’s nephews, Warren Anderson, Lyle Anderson both of Devils Lake; nieces Janet Carvell of Washburn, ND, Janice Persinger of Norton, KS and special friend Lowell Stave.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents.
