Elsie J. Herman, 52 of Devils Lake, ND died on Friday, August 27, 2010 at the Heartland Care Center in the loving care of her family and Mercy Hospice. Funeral Services for Elsie will be held on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake. Fr. Brian Moen will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Wednesday will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Serving as Casket Bearers for Elsie will be Elsie’s nephews, Todd Dauphinais, Hyllis Dauphinais, Kelvin Carlson, Kirk Shipley Jr., Seth Shipley, Levi Shipley, Robbie Orness and Steven Nyland. Honorary casket bears will be Elsie’s nephews and nieces and all her good friends. Elsie Jean was born on June 25, 1958 to Ernest and Beulah (Parisien Poitra) Herman at Devils Lake, ND where she would live and work for most of her life. She attended school at St. Michael Little Flower School, Wahpeton, and also at Devils Lake. Most of Elsie’s working life was as a painter for several different companies and on her own until illness forced her to retire. Elsie was an avid reader and enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles. She loved spending time with her family and friends and playing Board Games or going to Bingo. We love you and we will miss you our dear sister, aunt, mother and friend. Rest in God’s peace. Elsie is survived by her daughters, Cody Lynn Herman and Rebecca A. Herman of New Town, ND; three grandchildren; brother, Alfred Herman, Devils Lake; sisters, Ernestine Dauphinais, Mary Jane (Wayne) Carlson all of Devils Lake, Debra Herman of Grand Forks, Yvonne Shipley and Shirley Herman also of Devils Lake, Toni (Tim) Herman of Watford City, ND and Brenda (Bud) Pendergast of Pleasant Shade, Tennessee; many nieces, nephews and their families and two great great nieces. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Beulah (Parisien Portra) Herman; sisters Betty Ann Jager, Jeanette Jore and Lucille Herman; brother Ernest Herman Jr. and her grandparents Alex and Mary (Belgarde) Herman.
