Marlis Kaye was born on May 19, 1954 at Devils Lake, ND the daughter of Jerome and Stella (RedDay) Johnson. She attended Little Flower School at St. Michael, ND and graduated from High School at Flandreau, South Dakota. She received her vocational certificate at United Tribes in Bismarck, ND. She then traveled throughout the United States but she grew to love the West and lived in several western states including Oregon, Washington and Colorado.
Marlis felt her meeting and spending eleven wonderful years with Mark BlackCloud as one of the many blessings in her life. Another blessing was her life commitment and over thirty years of love and devotion to William “Billy” Anderson whom she married on November 28, 2009. Billy died on January 31, 2010.
Marlis worked for a time as a CNA at the Good Samaritan Center and most recently had worked in various positions at the Spirit Lake Casino and Resort.
Marlis’ number one commitment was that of a wife, Mom and Grandma. She always wanted to look her best when she knew family and friends were coming to visit. Even in the last days, she asked the nurses to help her “freshen up” before company arrived. She loved Yahtzee and was the “Yahtzee Queen” in her families eyes. She never missed an opportunity to care for her grandchildren and hugs were given like candy to all of her family and friends. We will truly miss all the beautiful and precious joys of life that Marlis brought to our family but she will be forever loved and in our hearts.
Marlis leaves behind her loving family: her children, Christopher Vivier of Spokane, Washington, Toni Johnson of Dickinson, ND, William “Billy Joe” Foote and friend, Hope GoodShield, Courtney and her husband Frank BlackCloud, Colleen “CJ” Anderson and Ashley Anderson and fiancé Napoleon Fournier all of Fort Totten, ND.; sisters, Patricia Johnson of Green Bay, Wisconsin and twin sister, Marlene Pederson of Grand Forks; brother, Roland (Julie) Johnson of Tokio, ND; Seventeen Grandchildren; surrogate children, JR and Elizabeth; and her many cousins that she loved dearly especially, Nita, Janice and Roger, Mavis Taken Care Of, Davita Rush and her beloved and missed Andrea Feather and Carrie RedDay and her many friends. (too many to list and we are sorry if we did not remember everyone’s name.
Marlis was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Billy; grandchildren, Suri and Alex Fournier; sister, Colleen Hill; brother, Chris Johnson; nephew, Casey Johnson and grandparents, Joshua and Christine (Merrick) RedDay and Cora and Willis Roy Anderson.
