Janet Ludy was born on July 4, 1941 at Berne-French Township, Adams County, Indiana, the daughter of Elmer “Pat” and Lela (McGough) Ludy. She was reared and educated in Berne, Indiana graduating from Berne-French High School in 1959.
Janet Ludy married Delbert Broughton on December 21, 1959 in Danville, Kentucky. They made their home in Fort Wayne, Indiana with their three children. On November 5, 1971, Janet was united in marriage to Raymond Fleming in Lake City, Tennessee. They lived and worked in Indiana and Illinois before making their final move to North Dakota and a daughter was added to the family.
Janet worked as a bookkeeper for Top Value Company in Indiana before moving to North Dakota, where she worked various jobs before finding her niche as the lead nutritionist for the Warwick Public School system. Ill health forced her to retire in 2001 after over 13 years at the school. Janet then moved to Devils Lake to be closer to family.
Janet’s hands were never idle, whether she was crocheting, making crafts, reading, or baking and cooking for her friends and family. Janet was also an avid Dale Earnhardt Sr. fan and had a vast collection of #3 Car memorabilia. Janet’s greatest joys were her family and friends. You never left her house with empty hands; she always sent you out the door with something she had made or a special “something” she found when shopping.
Our Mom, Grandma, sister and aunt was that “something” special to us and she will be greatly missed by us and all who knew her.
Janet is survived by her children: Tamara Broughton and special friend, Robert Spicer of Bullhead City, Arizona, Kirk Broughton and his wife, Kristina, Lisa and her husband Rick Bachmeier and Tara and her husband, Terry Avdem all of Devils Lake; grandchildren, Jeremiah Broughton; Stephonie Wentz and Kimberly Broughton; Carissa Pollman and Kelsey Bachmeier; Levi Avdem and Braydon Avdem; great grandchildren, Trasen, Ryder and Tayler Pollman; brothers, Bill Peters of Van Wert, Ohio and John Ludy of Fremont, Indiana and her sister Judie Grogg of Delphos, Ohio; many cousins, nieces, nephews and their families, as well as special friends, Lorene Waldo and Deloise Haugen also survive.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond Fleming on July 26, 1996; son-in-law, Emil Marotzke; grandson, Tyler Avdem and brothers, Don Keller and Tom Ludy.
