Dennis M. Spychalla, 57 of Devils Lake, ND passed away Tuesday morning, September 21, 2010 at his home with his loving wife, Jackie and their beloved dog, Shuette after a long battle against cancer. Funeral services for Dennis will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until time of service at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Serving as Casket Bearers for Dennis will be Chris Malone, Ron Schooler, Mark Detert, John Stautz, Lewis Schooler and Shane Paulson. Honorary Bearers will be Pat Humphrey, Todd Spychalla, Jamie Spidahl, Tim Trottier, Kurt Stavem and Jason Stinkeoway. Music will be provided by St. Peter’s Choir with Mavis Blake as organist. Dennis Michael was born on November 23, 1952, the son of Dominic and Ethel (Dick) Spychalla at Willernie, Minnesota where he was reared and educated. In the early the 1990’s Dennis moved to North Dakota where he would live and work until his death. Dennis was united in marriage to Jackie Hoeltl on May 20, 2005 in Devils Lake where they established their home. Dennis will always be remembered for his kind heart, willingness to do anything for those he called friends, his ability to find value in other people’s junk and his love for fishing. He is loved and will be missed by all. Dennis is survived by his wife Jackie; sons Philip, Makar and Billy Spychalla of Minnesota; daughters NadieZda and Olyana Spychalla also of Minnesota; brothers Dale (Debra) Spychalla from Mississippi and Dan (Rosemary) Spychalla of Aitkin, Minnesota; sisters Jean (Bernie Theisen) Spychalla also of Minnesota and Julie Spychalla of Michigan City, Indiana; step children Lisa (Shane) Downing of Washington, Jennifer (Kurt) Stavem of Minot, Ben (Chelce) Detert of Fargo and Mark (Rebekka) Detert also of Minot; There are four granddaughters and five grandsons and a grandchild the way. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; children Dennis Spychalla Jr. and Marie Spychalla; brother Dominic; sister Jo Marie “Tootsie” Harlin.
