Clara Corrine Oram was born January 22, 1918 on the Blanding Fisher Farms, north of Devils Lake, the daughter of Peder and Gjertina (Eidum) Oram. In 1922 she moved with her family to their farm on Six Mile Bay. Clara attended Poplar Grove Rural School. After graduating from Devils Lake Central High School in 1941, she went to train at NYA War Production Center in Grand Forks. She worked as a riveter for United Airlines and then at Boeing until the war ended. After training in Minneapolis, Clara became a Licensed Practical Nurse. In Devils Lake she served as a nurse at the General and Mercy Hospitals as well as the Lutheran Home. She spent many years working at Hi-Acres Manor in Jamestown and at Friendship Homes in McVille before retiring to the homestead where she resided until last year when the home place became and remains to be flooded by the rising water of Devils Lake. Clara enjoyed listening to Christian music and studying the Bible, working word puzzles, reading, gardening and growing flowers. She was a very giving person. Most of the crafts and crochet work she made she gave away to relatives to enjoy. She never had children of her own, but she supported many underprivileged children around the world. She was also the care giver to her sister, Elsie for many years. Clara’s loving family: sister-in-law, Pearl (Mrs. Helmer) Oram of rural Devils Lake; nephew Gary Oram also of rural Devils Lake; nieces Connie (Gary) Verville, rural Devils Lake, Nancy (Marden) Holden of Solway, Minnesota, Tammy (John) Hornbacher of Harvey, ND; Great Nieces and Great Nephews Roxanne (Chris) Zurn, Stephen (Diana) Verville, Heather Holden and Jeremiah Hornbacher; Great Great Nieces and Nephews: Logan Verville, Wyatt Verville, Tatyana (Jordon) Peltier, Karissa Monette, Nathan Zurn, Samantha Zurn, Ava Zurn; Great Great Great Nephews Tristan, Remy and Judah Peltier.
