Elizabeth A. Lagasse

Elizabeth A. Lagasse, 87 of Rolette, ND died on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at the Heart of America Medical Center, Rugby, ND. Mass of Christian Burial for Liz will be held on Monday, December 28, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rolette, ND. Fr. Philip Chacko will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, rural Rolette. Visitation will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary, led by Stanley Casavant and Scripture Service led by Fr. Chacko at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Monday will be one hour prior to the funeral Mass. Serving as Casket Bearers for Elizabeth will be her grandchildren, Lisa Reps, Leslie Branchi, Michael Lehnertz, Jill Lagasse, Sarah Lagasse, Jessica Lagasse, Britton Lagasse, Jacob Lagasse and Ava Jo Lagasse. Honorary Bearers are the Rick Berube family and Betty Ramsfield. Elizabeth Anne was born on May 26, 1922 in rural Knox, the daughter of Andrew and Angeliane (Kupser) Mitzel. She was raised and educated in the Knox area. Elizabeth was united in marriage to Henry Lagasse on May 11, 1944 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Knox. They made their home in several places through the years, but lived, worked and raised their family in the Rolette area. Elizabeth was first and foremost a loving, devoted wife and mother and as the children got older she worked at the Laundromat and Motel in Rolette and also as a nurses’ aide at the Rolette Hospital. After retirement, Liz did Day Care in her home. Elizabeth enjoyed playing cards with her children and grandchildren and always was excited to watch her grandchildren participate in sports and other activities. Elizabeth is survived by her sons: James (Bonnie) Lagasse of St. Petersburg, Florida, Rodney (Brenda) Lagasse of Rapid City, South Dakota, Dennis (Cindy) Lagasse of Bottineau, ND, Todd (Jodi) Lagasse of Devils Lake, ND and Joseph (Deb) Lagasse of Mandan, ND; daughters: Linda (James) Lehnertz of Altura, Minnesota, Debra Lagasse of Waseca, Minnesota, Denise Lagasse of Rolette and Joyce Kortuem of St. Michaels, Minnesota; Fourteen Grandchildren and Fourteen Great Grandchildren also survive; sister, Phyllis Vollan of Seattle, Washington; Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Henry on April 18, 2003; grandchildren, Nicole Lagasse and Tammy Lagasse-Parcells; her parents; brothers, Frank, Conrad and Andrew Mitzel and sisters, Frances, Mary, Catherine and Barbara.
