Marie P. Schumacher, 72 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake, ND. Mass of Christian Burial for Marie will be held on Monday, March 29, 2010 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. Peter Sharp will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Devils Lake. Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Prayer Service at 4:00 p.m. Visitation on Monday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass. Marie was born on June 1, 1937 in Warren, Minnesota, the daughter of Frank and Rozalie H. (Novacek) Brda. She was raised there and educated at a country school in the Tabor area through eighth grade and attended high school and graduated from Mount St. Benedict Academy in Crookston, Minnesota. Marie was united in marriage to Charles Schumacher on November 25, 1958 in Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Tabor, MN. Marie and Charles then moved to Devils Lake, North Dakota and lived, worked and raised their family here through the years. She worked as a sales clerk at Vang’s Jewelry for 26 years. Marie was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. At one time she was president of Altar Society, a school board member of St. Mary’s Academy and St. Joseph School. Marie was an original member of Infant of Prague Circle and helped form this and other circles. She loved to tend her flower gardens and also loved to bowl and was on a bowling league. Marie is survived by her husband Charles, daughters: Catherine and her husband, Richard Soper of Prior Lake, Minnesota, Tamara Reierson, Devils Lake, North Dakota, Vickie Jo Sorenson, Shakopee, Minnesota, son: Shane Schumacher and his wife, Julie of Fargo, North Dakota, grandchildren: Samantha (Brian) Kohout, Stephanie Soper; Joseph, Brock, Nicolette and Trent Reierson; Lexi, Chloe, Krista and Mya Schumacher; Taylor and Briar Sorenson; brothers, David (Cathy) Brda of Redwood City, California and Francis Brda of Euclid, Minnesota and her sister, Helena Keller of Bismarck, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Rozalie.
