Verda O. Malmedal, 100 of Devils Lake, formerly of Tilden, ND died early Saturday morning, June 26, 2010 at the Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake.
Funeral Services for Verda will be held on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake with Rev. Jeff Nicla officiating. Burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
Verda, the daughter of Roy and Olive (Beegly) Tolle was born on September 6, 1909 at Arndt, ND. As a young girl, Verda lived in Loma, Montana, Churchs Ferry and Cando. Verda was united in marriage to Owen Stebleton on March 5, 1928. Owen died on November 18, 1930.
On June 21, 1937, Verda married Fred Malmedal at Cando, ND. They lived for a time in Egeland, ND and then for the next 40 plus years in Tilden, ND where Fred managed the elevator. Fred died May 29, 1985. Verda was a devoted mother and wife. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed baking, sharing her creations with her family and friends. Verda also did babysitting for several families in the neighborhood.
Verda lived in her own apartment in Devils Lake up until August of 2009 when she moved to the Odd Fellows Assisted Living Center, Devils Lake and then on June 22, 2010 Verda became a resident of Heartland Care Center.
Verda is survived by her son, Marvin Malmedal and his wife Diane of Underwood, ND; daughters, Shirley and her husband, Gordon Tostenson of Devils Lake and Carol Stubbs and Bernie of Blair, Nebraska; six grandchildren-Kevin (Nikki) Malmedal and Greg Malmedal; Larry Tostenson and Kathy (Jeff) Eback-Wade Gaking and Shelly Huskins; nine great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren; sister Olive Mae Scalabrini of Walnut Creek, California and many nieces, nephews and their families.
Verda was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Owen Stebleton and Fred Malmedal; son Clyde Stebleton; sisters Irma (Don) Reed of Pleasanton, California, Genevieve (Marvin) Funderburg of Kennewick, Washington and Evelyn Tolle; brother, Delmar Tolle of Aurora, Colorado;
