Harold Hanson, 94 of Devils Lake, ND formerly of the Starkweather area died on Sunday evening, August 6, 2006 at Mercy Hospital surrounded by his loving wife and family. Funeral Services for Harold will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity-Bergen Lutheran Church, Starkweather, ND. Rev. Robert Buechler will officiate and burial will be in the Trinity-Bergen Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, on Wednesday, August 9, 2006 from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation on Thursday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Serving as Casket Bearers for Harold will be Allan Hansen, Steve Bracken, Lyle Johnson, Billy Wakefield, Joel Anderson and Brian Goffe. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Bjarne Berg, Don Brintnell, Dennis Adams, Gordon Braathen, Gene Braathen, Bob Sager and Oscar Dammen. Music will be provided by Elizabeth Berg, Jim Berg and Nathan Berg. Harold Melvin was born on January 6, 1912 in Towner County, rural Garske area. He was the oldest son of immigrants, Sander M. and Jennie (Braaten) Hansen who came from Denmark and Norway respectively. Harold grew up on the family farm, attended Coolin Township School and Bergen Lutheran Church. Harold was united in marriage to Myrtle G. Johnson on March 29, 1938 in Starkweather, ND. They established their home on a farm in rural Starkweather where they farmed for 43 years. In 1981, Harold and Myrtle moved to Devils Lake. Harold was member of Trinity Bergen Lutheran Church, Sons of Norway, Devils Lake Elks Lodge #1216 and the Devils Lake Eagles. Harold is survived by his wife of 68 years, Myrtle Daughter: Esther Goffe and her husband, Stan of Enumclaw, Washington Sons: Richard Hanson and his wife, Karen of Starkweather Curtis Hanson of Jamestown Three Grandsons Two Granddaughters One Great Grandson One Great Granddaughter One Great Great Granddaughter Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins in the US, Norway and Denmark also survive. Harold was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Rudy and Emil.
