Eleanor M. Osland, 89, of Park River, ND formerly of Devils Lake, ND died early Friday morning, August 4, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Center, Park River, ND.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. C.F. Wilhelm will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Monday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary led by the Catholic Daughters and Scripture Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Tuesday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Eleanor will be Tyler Osland, Gordon Gulseth, Lanny Gulseth, Terry Wallace, Dan Dahlen and George Sinner.
Kevin Regan and Patty Cote will provide music for the service.
Reading the Scriptures will be Brittany Osland and Kate Sinner
Gift Bearers will be Troy, Travis and Hannah Osland.
Eleanor Mary Belford was born on September 20, 1916 at Devils Lake, ND to George and Nellie (Chisholm) Belford. She graduated from Webster High School and attended Minot State Teachers College and Western College in Bellingham, Washington. She taught school in rural Ramsey County, ND, Glasgow, Montana and Washington State. She also worked at Boeing and Fort Lawton in the Seattle area during World War II. She returned to the Lake Region area to teach and married Donald Osland on June 26, 1950 in Devils Lake. They farmed at Sheyenne, ND until 1964 when they moved to the Belford family farm at Sweetwater Lake, rural Devils Lake. They moved to Heartland Court in 1994. Donald died in March of 1994. Eleanor continued to make her home there until moving to the Park River Good Samaritan Complex in 2003.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Altar Society, Catholic Daughters and Pioneer Daughters and would volunteer at the Pioneer Daughters Museum at Fort Totten. She enjoyed traveling to see her family members.
She is survived by her daughter: Mary Thompson and her husband, Jack, Park River, ND
