Evelyn Tonetta Toso

Evelyn T. Toso, 89 of Devils Lake formerly of Maddock, ND passed away peacefully in the loving care of her family and Mercy Hospice on Friday evening, July 23, 2010 at the Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Evelyn will be held on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. Rev. Reuben G. Schnaidt will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Monday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service and Time of Remembrance at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Tuesday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Serving as Casket Bearers for Evelyn will be Lynn Toso, Todd Toso, Leroy Toso, Arden Toso, Clarence Toso, David Togstad, Gary Togstad and Curtis Togstad. Music will be provided by JoDee Lagein, soloist and Lynda Pearson, organist. Evelyn Tonetta Togstad, the daughter of Edwin and Minnie (Ploium) Togstad was born on November 12, 1920 in on the farm in Albert Township, rural Maddock, ND where she was reared and attended country school. Evelyn was united in marriage to William “Bill” Toso on December 30, 1939 in Minnewaukan, ND. This union would be the beginning of a love story that lasted for nearly 70 years until Bill’s death on August 1, 2009. Evelyn and Bill established their home in the Maddock area until 1943 when they moved to Devils Lake. Evelyn worked for 26 years at the Good Samaritan Center and Heartland Care Center and various other places, retiring in 2005. Evelyn was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and was a faithful member and volunteered many hours with St. Olaf Faith and Care. Evelyn also volunteered many hours in community service. Evelyn was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother whose heart showed love and caring concern to everyone she met and especially her grandchildren. Evelyn is survived by her sons: Larry Toso and his wife, Lila of Windsor, Colorado and Lanis Toso and his wife, Kim of Devils Lake; Grandchildren, Cindy Toso of Loveland, Colorado, Lynn (Debbie) Toso of Devils Lake, Todd (Gretchen) Toso also of Loveland, Lanny Toso of Farmington, New Mexico and Kristy Toso and Michael Toso both of Devils Lake; Great Grandchildren, Kaylee Toso of Devils Lake and Garret, Tanner and Taleah Toso of Loveland, Colorado; brother, Harris Togstad of Maddock, ND and sister-in-law, Ffalliott Togstad of Devils Lake; Several nieces, nephews and their families also survive. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Joel Togstad; sister-in-law, Eileen Togstad and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
