Wanda M. Gonzalez, “Wanagi Canku Mani Win” (Woman Walks on Spirit Road) 56 of the Spirit Lake Nation died on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck, ND. A Wake will be held at St. Michael’s Recreation Center, St. Michael, ND on Monday beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Prayer Service at 8:00 p.m. The procession to St. Michael will leave at 4:00 p.m. on Monday from Wal-Mart. Mass of Christian Burial for Wanda will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. Fr. Brian Moen will officiate and Wanda will be laid to rest in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery. Serving as Casket Bearers for Wanda will be Carlos Gonzalez, Terrance Trottier, Zachary Burdick, Terrance Ross, Wesley BigTrack, Craig Littleghost, T.J. Gipson and Filmore Stands. Honorary Bearers will be Theresa Thomas, Larry Matt Jr., Derrek Rosefeld, Marva Tollefson, Jeaneen Littleghost, Noreen Littleghost, Lawrence Littleghost Jr., Karen Littleghost, Loren Littleghost, Verle Littleghost, Pinky Dubois, Melody Christianson, Lorenza Gonzalez, Karoline TwoHearts, Ruth DeLarious and all of Wanda’s many nieces and nephews. Wanda considered all of her first cousins as brothers and sisters. April would like to express her apologies if she excluded anyone. She would like to express her respect and acknowledgements to anyone not listed, no disrespect is intended. Wanda Jane was born on August 4, 1953 at Devils Lake, ND the daughter of Lawrence and Geraldine (Young) Littleghost Sr. Wanda began her nomadic journey on the Spirit Lake Nation. Through her childhood she attended school at Little Flower and Wahpeton Boarding School. She continued to pursue her education after the birth of April and Mark. She attended business school in Lincoln, Nebraska. Later in life she attended Candeska Cikana Community College and the United Tribes Technical College, majoring in business and the culinary arts. Although she dabbled in many fields, her two career choices were administrative assistant and chef. Her wandering ways led her to live in North Dakota, Ohio, Nebraska, South Dakota, Illinois, New Mexico, Texas and Mexico. During those travels she had her son, Aaron. However, the immense love Wanda had for her family and friends kept bringing her home. Wanda’s grandchildren and great grandchildren were the loves of her life. Her passion for cooking and storytelling were enjoyed by many. Wanda loved to dance and gave that joy to her daughter. She also gave her daughter the love of reading and continuing her education. Thank you Wanda for the many, many gifts and life lessons you have given to us. We love you Wanda and miss you very much. Wanda is survived by her husband, Carlos Gonzalez of Bismarck, ND who she married May 31, 2002; daughter, April Littleghost-Trottier and her husband, Terrance also of Bismarck; son, Mark Kalenze ofSt. Cloud, MN; grandchildren, Kristina Kalenze, Larry Matt, Jr., Derrek Rosefeld, Aaron Kalenze, Zachary Burdick, Kaleb Dunn and Dominic Littleghost-Trottier; great grandchildren, Mekhi Dunn and Lalena Dunn; father, Lawrence Littleghost Sr.; brothers and sisters, Lawrence “Josh” Littleghost Jr., Noreen Littleghost, Jeaneen Littleghost, Karen Littleghost and Loren Littleghost; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Wanda was preceded in death by her mother, Geraldine; son, Aaron Dunn; grandparents, James and Mary Agnes (Feather) Littleghost, Violet Littleghost Blueshield, Rose Littleghost Dubois, Mary Jane Littleghost Yankton, John Young and Lena Goodhouse; sister, Luanne Littleghost; brother, Brian Stacy Littleghost and many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
