Cecelia M. Trudel, 99 of Devils Lake and formerly of Pembina, ND died early Sunday morning, June 13, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake.
Cecelia Trudel, daughter of Patrick and Hulda (Anderson) Martineau was born on June 22, 1910 in Leroy, ND. The family moved to the Pembina community in 1918. Cecelia attended school there and graduated from Pembina High School in 1927. She went to college in Valley City where she earned her teaching certificate. She taught one room country schools for years.
Cecelia was united in marriage to John Trudel on January 4, 1934. They had two children, Melvin and Doreen. They established their home in the Pembina area and farmed until retirement. In October of 2000, Cecelia moved to Devils Lake.
Cecelia enjoyed many sports. She was a member of bowling and curling teams and she also played the game of golf for many years. In later years, she kept busy doing crafts and playing cards. Playing her cord organ was another pastime she thoroughly enjoyed.
Cecelia was an active member of the Assumption Catholic Church in Pembina and sang in the church choir for 40 years.
Survivors include her daughter, Doreen and her husband, David Gibbons of Devils Lake; six grandchildren, Rick, Todd and Bob Trudel, Linda Devroy, Cheryl and Mike Adams; seventeen great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Gordon Sanders and sister-in-law, Luella Trudel; many nieces, nephews and their families also survive.
Cecelia was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; son, Melvin Trudel; grandson, John Adams; infant brother, Andrew and brother and sister-in-law, Lawson and Elizabeth Martineau; sisters and brothers-in-law, Otellia and Ben Joasten, Goldie and Geo Defoe, Bernice Sanders, John Trudel and Cornelia “Connie” Martineau.
Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, June 18, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Peter Sharpe celebrating the Mass.
Visitation: Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Friday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass.
Casket Bearers: Tim Bongs, Cassie Bongs, Alex Trudel, Cal Trudel, Nathan Devroy, Melissa Devroy, Lauren Trudel, Alli Trudel and Rachel Trudel
Interment: Pembina Cemetery, Pembina, North Dakota at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
