Margaret C. Perkuhn, 87 of Devils Lake, ND died on Thursday evening, July 27, 2006 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake, ND. Funeral Services for Margaret will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. Rev. Roger Leonhardt will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Monday, July 31, 2006 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation on Tuesday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Serving as Casket Bearers for Margaret will be her grandchildren, Brenda Nelson, Brian Perkuhn, Bev Bachmeier, Sandy Robinson, Todd Perkuhn and Karisa McCulloch. Honorary Pallbearers will be Margaret’s Fellow Foster Grandparents and all the children who were touched by Margaret’s life and love. Margaret Clara Schmidt was born in Noonan Township, rural Devils Lake, ND on April 12, 1919, the daughter of George and Florence (Rassmussen) Schmidt. She was reared and educated in Noonan Township, attending the Noonan Township School. Prior to her marriage, Margaret worked as a housekeeper for several farm homes in the area. Margaret was united in marriage to Fred Perkuhn on October 20, 1940 at Dresden, North Dakota. They established their home on the farm in Noonan Township where they lived, worked and raised their family. In 1975, they retired and moved to Devils Lake. While living on the farm, Margaret was employed at the Noonan School as a cook for many years and after moving to Devils Lake worked as a cook at the Good Samaritan Center for 20 years. Fred died on November 14, 1981. Margaret was very active and involved in the Foster Grandparent Program for many years and was a dedicated volunteer for the RSVP for over 2o years. Her dedication to and love of family and children brought her to Memorial Day Care and Early Head Start where she spent many hours nurturing and rocking hundreds of babies through the years. Margaret was also a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and the Quilting Group. Margaret so enjoyed her many trips to Wisconsin to visit her family and also loved to play Bingo. But for Margaret, love of family and children and her dear friends are what sustained her. She will be forever loved and forever missed by all who knew her. Margaret is survived by her son, Roger Perkuhn and his wife, Cheryl of Crary Daughter-In-Law: Laverne Perkuhn also of Crary Grandchildren: Brenda (Randy) Nelson, Devils Lake Brian (Kim) Perkuhn also of Devils Lake Bev (Mike) Bachmeier, Brocket, ND Sandy (Bill) Robinson, San Antonio, Texas Todd Perkuhn, Fort Collins, Colorado Karisa (Paul) McCulloch of Lone Tree, Colorado Thirteen Great Grandchildren Two Great Great Grandsons Sisters and Brothers: Helen Bassford and her husband, Mark of Las Vegas, Nevada Fran Chambers and her husband, Al of Cascade, Wisconsin Eddy Schmidt and his wife, Polly of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin Dorothy Tuttle of Pennsylvania Richard Schmidt and his wife, Sandy of Door County, Wisconsin Sisters-In-Law: Tess Schmidt, Germantown, Wisconsin Tillie Schmidt, Hurbutun, Wisconsin Junette Schmidt, Mukwonago, Wisconsin Agnes Perkuhn, Tacoma, Washington Gen Perkuhn, East Grand Forks, Minnesota Brother-In-Law: Joe Bruski of Franklin, Wisconsin Aunts: Lena Kraft of Roseville, California and Rose Isaacson of Minneapolis, MN Many Nieces and Nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Margaret Schmidt; husband, Fred; son, Richard Perkuhn; grandson, Scott Perkuhn; great granddaughter, Bobbie Jo Nelson; sisters, Theresa Schmidt and Angie Bruski; brothers, Leo, John and George “Shorty” Schmidt and Jack in infancy.
