Michael “Mike” Meier Jr., 73 a long time Devils Lake businessman died on Thursday morning, May 11, 2006, rural Devils Lake.
Mass of Christian Burial for Michael will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. C. F. Wilhelm will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Visitation will be at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 8:00 p.m. Visitation on Tuesday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Mike will be Darrell Meier, Travis Lafrenz, Brandon Lafrenz, James Scharf, Don Schell, Bill Wakefield, Michael Veer and John Martin.
Reading the Scriptures: Ramie Spenger and Jacqueline Scharf.
Gift Bearers: Jessica Scharf, Joshua Scharf, Jacqueline Scharf and Brock Meier.
Michael was born on February 2, 1933 at Devils Lake, ND the son of Michael and Rosella “Rose” (Lingor) Meier Sr. He was reared and educated in Devils Lake. He entered the United States Army in 1952, serving his country during the Korean Conflict. Mike was honorably discharged in 1954 with the rank of Corporal. Mike returned to North Dakota where he lived and worked through the years. He married Delores Elgaen and they established their home in Devils Lake. Mike spent most of his working life as a pilot, operating an aerial crop spraying business. Most recently, he was employed by RDO Foods of Grand Forks.
Mike was a member of the VFW, Elks Lodge, and the NAAA (National Ag Aviation Association).
Mike truly loved the freedom of flying in his airplane, which he continued to do until his death, but nothing gave him greater joy than spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved going to the lake and spending hours boating with his family. He was a lover of animals, always had several pets and rarely traveled anywhere without at least one of his dogs along.
Mike will be forever loved and forever in our hearts.

Three Great Grandchildren: Kaden, Taylor and Jordyn

Betty (Dee) Brown, Butte, Montana
Ilean (Lynn) Johnson also of Butte

He was preceded in death by his parents.
