Albena Platts, 97 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at the Heartland Care Center in the loving care of family.
Albena was born on September 26, 1912 at St. Paul, Minnesota one of nine children born to Phillip J. and Tekla (Pacheka)Zyllo. At a young age, she moved with her family to the Churchs Ferry area where she was reared and educated.
Albena was united in marriage to Cady V. Platts on May 21, 1932 at Minot, ND. They established their home in the Maza and Churchs Ferry area and in 1947 moved to Devils Lake where she lived the remainder of her life. Albena worked as a clerk for several years at Manns Department Store and later at Our Own Hardware until she retired. Mr. Platts died on April 2, 1975.
Albena was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the UMW and also the Rebekah’s.
Albena was a very talented seamstress and sewed many of her children’s clothing and also did tailoring for many years. She enjoyed many kinds of needlework including, knitting and crocheting and also loved quilting with the ladies of the church.
As a widow for many years, Albena had the determination to be self sufficient. She did her own maintenance and repairs to her home whenever possible. She always tended with care a large garden and was generous to others with its produce. Albena never drove a car so she rode her bicycle where ever she needed to go weather permitting or she walked. But when Albena had time indoors she was busy working on a puzzle. These were a 1000 piece and more and she would carefully back and glue them so that she could share their beauty with her family. She was a woman of faith, thankful for the many blessings in her life, including surviving the flu of 1918 when so many others did not. She was thankful for being able to stay in her own home through the years and especially thankful for her loving, dear family and friends.
