MARY ALICE FORSETH

Mary Alice Forseth, 93 of Devils Lake formerly of Sarles, ND passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2010 at Heartland Care Center with her daughter at her side. Funeral Services for Mary Alice will be at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Adrian Olson officiating and burial will be in the Corinthian Cemetery, rural Calvin, ND in the spring. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m with a Prayer Service and Time of Sharing at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Saturday will be at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Serving as Casket Bearers for Mary Alice will be Everett McConnell, Howard McConnell, Daryl McLeod, Raymond Samuelson, Harold Estenson, Chad Haberstroh, Edward Krumwiede and Lyle Samuelson Music will be provided by Carolyn Heller. Mary Alice Heller was born on March 30, 1916 at the Heller Home at rural Rocklake, ND the daughter of George F. and Mary A. (Hoover) Heller. Mary Alice attended Mt. Pleasant School and graduated from Anamoose High School, Anamoose, ND with the class of 1934. As a young adult, Mary Alice graduated from cosmetology school at Waterloo, Iowa in February of 1937 and then resided with her five brothers on the Heller farm at Rocklake. Mary Alice was united in marriage to Arnold Forseth on October 15, 1940 in Bisbee, ND. They lived in Tacoma, Washington during the winter of 1940-41. In the spring of 1941, they returned to North Dakota and began farming at Sarles, ND. They lived at the farm at Sarles and after Arnold’s death in 1984, Mary Alice continued living on the farm until 2002 when she moved to the Heartland Courts assisted living facility in Devils Lake. She lived at the courts for seven years and entered Heartland Care Center in July of 2009. Arnold and Mary Alice were blessed with two children, Archie and Patricia. Mary Alice was a very social person who cherished her family and friends. She was a talented artist and also completed many handwork projects. She was an active member of Sarles Lutheran Church, WELCA,Sarles Senior Citizens, the Piecemakers Quilters group, Order of Eastern Star and enjoyed being a member of the Bunco Group. Mary Alice was especially fond of reminiscing about her childhood years of growing up at High Lonesome (the Heller farmstead) with her ten siblings. She also relished and treasured her 60 years spent on the farm at Sarles. Mary Alice is survived by her daughter Patricia and her husband Wesley Hell of East Grand Forks, MN; six grandchildren, Kimberley (Danny) Woodyard, Richard (Wendy) Hell of Fargo, ND, Eric (Sandy) Forseth, Kristen (Rick) Burkland, Brett Forseth and Dawn Michele (Ian) McFatridge; Twelve Great Grandchildren; sister-in-law, Elsie Heller and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arnold; her son, Archie; five brothers, Charles, Thomas, Archie, Henry and Harry Heller; five sisters, Florence Utgaard, Elizabeth Fleming, Rebecca Heath, Cora Wills and Ruth McKechnie and by several sisters and brothers-in-law, aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces. Blessed be the memory of Mary Alice. We rejoice in her life and all the warm memories of her loving spirit.
