James L. “Jim” Johnson, 56 of Claremont, California, son of Lawrence and Irene Johnson of Devils Lake, ND died on Thursday, February 18, 2010 in Claremont. Services will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Monday, March 1, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. with burial to follow in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Funeral services for James L. Johnson, age 56, of Claremont, CA were held on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010 at the Pamona First Baptist Church. James (Jim), son of Lawrence & Irene Johnson, was born in Devils Lake on Sept. 17, 1953. He graduated from Central High School in Devils Lake in 1971. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism at UND, his Master of Science Degree from Azusa Pacific University in May, 1980 in Marriage and Family Therapy, and his PhD in Clinical Psychology in June of 1990. On Aug. 28, 1981, Jim was united in marriage to Paula Sechler. They made their home in CA where they raised three children. Jim was a licensed Clinical Psychologist and has practiced in Covina and Claremont, California for the past 29 years. His clients loved his gentle, caring manner and held him in highest esteem. Jim was an active member of their church and had been a Deacon at Covina First Baptist church and The Vineyard for several years. Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He appreciated the outdoors with camping, hiking and hunting, as well as quiet times reading and writing. He was a Cub Master for several years for Pack 402 in Claremont and a Scout Leader as well. He earned his Buckskin while assisting with various scout activities. Scouts were an important part of Jim’s life; kids and learning good values were imperative to him. He is survived by his loving wife, Paula of Claremont, CA; sons, Daniel and Michael and daughter, Alisha all of Claremont, CA; parents, Lawrence and Irene Johnson of Devils Lake; brother, Jerry Johnson and his wife Kara of Devils Lake. Jim was preceded in death by his grandparents.
