Betty Jean Brustad, 84 of Grand Forks, formerly of Devils Lake, ND died Sunday, September 19, 2010 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Funeral Services for Betty will be held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Devils Lake on Thursday, September 23, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Jamie Desai will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
Music will be provided by Russell Pearson, soloist and Lynda Pearson, organist.
Betty was born on May 28, 1926 to Ole and Esther Laugtug, and was raised on a farm near Knox, ND. She graduated from Knox High School in 1944 and attended Minot Business College. On December 16, 1946, she married Raymond Brustad at Knox Lutheran Church. After Betty and Ray farmed for a short time near Knox, they moved to Doyon, ND where together, Betty and Ray raised their four children-Glenn, Gordon, Janet and Judy. In 1970, they moved to Devils Lake where Betty was busy as a homemaker as well as the bookkeeper for Brustad Oil Company. Together, Betty and Ray enjoyed many years of retirement which included many winters in Arizona with friends and relatives. Betty enjoyed cooking, crocheting and craft work which she lovingly gave many of her pieces as gifts to her family and friends. Spending time with her family, seeing and hearing from grandchildren and great grandchildren were the highlights of her life.
Betty is survived by her children, Glenn (Nancy) Brustad, Hillsboro, ND, Gordon (Cheryl) Brustad, Fargo, ND, Janet (Wayne) Shafer, Pembina, ND, Judy (Vernon) Bahr, Humbolt, MN; grandchildren, Jason Brustad, Reno, NV, Jessie (Joe) Kilsdonk, Fargo, ND, Sara (Perry) Hartwig, West Fargo, ND, Stephanie Brustad, Fargo, ND, Tyler and Evan Nordine, Humbolt, MN, Colin (Ashley) Schafer, Lignite, ND, Cassie (La Mar) Frazier, North Charleston, SC; great grandchildren, Austin Lamb, Kasey and Emily Hartwig, Kade Schafer.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond; three brothers, Elmer, Orville and baby Laugtug; two sisters, Hilda and Edna (Arnold) Pearson and son -in-law Rick Nordine.
