Alvina K. Greening, 96 of Devils Lake, ND died on Monday, November 26, 2007 at Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake.
Mass of Christian Burial for Alvina will be held on Friday, November 30, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. Robert Pecotte will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Friday will be one hour prior to the funeral Mass in the Mother Theresa Hall at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Alvina will be Chad Greening, Greg Greening, Brent Greening, Mike Kleinschmidt and Tim Kingzett.
Reading the Scriptures will be Carol Larson
Gift Bearers will be Nichole Greening, Julianne Greening and Alicia Greening
Music will be provided by Peter A. Hager and JoDee Lagein
Alvina Katherine, the daughter of Andrew and Margaret (Spillman) Kleinschmidt was born on August 19, 1911 on the farm in Trier Township, rural Calio, ND where she was reared and educated. She worked for several years as hired girl for area farm homes doing everything from child care, to cooking and cleaning and also farming and outdoor chores.
Alvina was united in marriage to Walter Greening on April 20, 1941 in Langdon, ND. Following their marriage the couple lived and farmed in the Wales area. In 1967, they moved to Devils Lake where Alvina continued to be a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She worked at the School for the Deaf for several years and later worked for the Devils Lake School District. Walter died on October 30, 1998. Alvina continued to make her home in Devils Lake. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Altar Society and Infant of Prague Circle.
The love Alvina showed for her family and the faith she shared with us all will be a lasting memory and forever in our hearts.
Alvina is survived by her loving sons, Tom Greening of Devils Lake
Don Greening and his wife, Mickey of Anchorage, Alaska
Grandchildren: Chad, Greg, Brent, Nichole, Julianne and Alicia Greening; Matthew (Marissa) Greening
Great Grandchildren: Treyson Greening, Brooklynn Greening; Wylee Greening; Hailey Greening and Ashton Greening;
Brother: Walter “Klink” Kleinschmidt and his wife, Juletta of Langdon, ND
Sisters: Frances Dietrich, Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Rose M. Kingzett, Fargo, ND
Alvina was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Clarence and Claude Kleinschmidt and siblings, Alfred and Eleanor in infancy.
