Hjordis E. Blanchfield, 79, of Devils Lake, ND died on Saturday, October 28, 2006 at the Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Hjordis will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. Rev. Harold Ovre will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Visitation on Wednesday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Serving as Casket Bearers for Hjordis will be Gary Bryn, Eugene Leiphon, Mark Blanchfield, Jeff Kenner, Lanny Kenner, Cory Kenner, Ryan Taylor and Bruce Dokken. Music will be provided by Marnie Langley, soloist and Lynda Pearson, organist. Hjordis Esther Dokken was born on December 5, 1926 in Towner, ND, the daughter of Syvert and Clara (Oium) Dokken. She was reared and educated in the Towner area except for her sophomore year when she attended school in California. She graduated from Towner High School and then attended Minot Teacher’s College and received her teacher’s certificate. She taught for several years at the Grand Harbor Township School and also with the St. Michael Head Start Program. Hjordis was united in marriage to George E. Blanchfield on February 7, 1948 in Devils Lake. They established their home on the family farm where they lived, worked and raised their family through the years. George died on November 4, 2002. Hjordis was an avid reader and always followed current events very closely with a special interest in politics. She was also a very talented artist. She was a former member of the Norway Lutheran Church until it closed and then St. Olaf Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary. Hjordis is survived by her children Greg Blanchfield and his wife, Christine of Juneau, Alaska Jay Blanchfield of Madison, Wisconsin Georgia Blanchfield and her husband, John Wiley also of Madison Grandchildren: Kai Kennedy and Blythe Kennedy of Madison Jordis Blanchfield of Knoxville, Tennessee Great Grandson: Gabriel Lyon Sisters: Ruth Kenner of Devils Lake Sigrid Medalen and her husband, Harold of Petersberg, Alaska Elizabeth Taylor and her husband, Marshall of Towner, ND Brother: Adrian Dokken and his wife, June also of Towner Sisters-In-Law: Monna May Halvorson, Towner Edna Kenner of Devils Lake Many Nieces and Nephews and dear close friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; brothers, Reinhart and Ernest Dokken.
