Albert F. “Al” Seykora, 83 of Devils Lake formerly of Brocket, ND passed away at his home in Devils Lake on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 in the loving care of his family and Mercy Hospice of Devils Lake. Mass of Christian Burial for Albert will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. Dale Kinzler will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Saturday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass. Serving as Casket Bearers for Albert will be Dale Marthe, Paul Peterson, Les Blada, Don Menke, Michael Peterson, Matthew Seykora, Daniel Seykora and Ryan Seykora. Music will be provided Patty Cote. Reading the Scriptures will be Warren Keller and Barbara Seykora. Gift Bearers: Chelsey Blada, Kaitlyn Blada and Desiree Norins. Albert Frank Seykora was born on April 3, 1927 in Brocket, ND to John and Emma (Pic) Seykora. In 1936, Albert’s parents, Albert and his sister Mary moved to Devils Lake where Albert would live, work and raise his family the rest of his life. Albert attended Washington Elementary School and Devils Lake Central. At the age of 17, Albert enlisted in the United States Navy on April 17, 1945. He served his country during World War II aboard the USS LST 682 (Landing Ship Tanks) in the South Pacific. Albert was honorably discharged on August 10, 1946 with the rank of Seaman First Class. On October 18, 1949, Albert was united in marriage to Helen Keller and they established their home in Devils Lake. Albert worked on Missile Construction at Nekoma, ND worked as a truck driver and for the city of Devils Lake, retiring from the city in 1991. Albert was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the VFW Post #756. Albert enjoyed fishing, watching sports on TV and walking his dogs, Skipper and Scamp. He truly treasured visits from his children and grandchildren. Albert is survived by his children Karen and her husband Dale Marthe, James Seykora and his wife Kathy and step daughter Amy Davis all of Minot, ND, Kathy and her husband Don Menke of Neche, ND, Diane and her husband Les Blada of Devils Lake, Linda and her husband Paul Peterson of Leeds, ND and John Seykora and his wife Barbara of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Desiree Norins; Matthew (Lindsey) Seykora, Ryan Seykora, Daniel (Ashley) Seykora; Chelsey and Kaitlyn Blada; Michael Peterson; Julianne, Jack, Billy and Marie Seykora and great grandchildren, Naomi and Clint Seykora; many nieces, nephews and their families also survive. Albert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Helen on August 1, 1996; sisters Martha Seykora and Mary LaFrombois and his brother Ludwig Seykora. The family requests that memorials be directed to Mercy Hospice, Devils Lake.
