Leonard J. Hoffart, 77 of Devils Lake, ND died on Saturday evening, September 2, 2006 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake on Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. Fr. C. F. Wilhelm will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery, rural Webster. Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. and at the church from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. The Rosary and Scripture Service will be at 7:00 p.m. at the church with the Rosary led by the Knights of Columbus.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Leonard will be Bob Hoffart, Larry Wilhelmi, Gary Wilhelmi, Kenny Sime Jr., Doug Olson, Wade Hoffart, Jason Hoffart and Paul Zettler.
Reading the Scriptures: Betty Ann Allen and Pam Kenner
Gift Bearers will be Leonard’s Grandchildren, Jessica, Sheila, Ryan, Jon and Crystal.
Altar Servers will be, Samantha and Eric Zettler, Nathan Mertens and Mikkel Zettler.
Music will be provided by Patty Cote and Peter A. Hager.
Leonard Joseph Hoffart was born on January 24, 1929 at Knox, ND the son of Anton and Theresa (Klein) Hoffart. In 1941 he moved with his parents to Southam, ND where he attended school. On October 30, 1952, Leonard entered the United States Army and served his country during the Korean War. Leonard was honorably discharged on October 29, 1954 at Fort Carson, Colorado. On September 28, 1955, Leonard was united in marriage to Mary L. Zettler at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, rural Webster. They lived for a year in the Southam area, then moved to Devils Lake where they lived, worked and raised their family. Leonard was employed by Lakeview Dairy for 43 years, retiring in 1999.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, serving as an usher and Eucharistic Minister for many years. He was a member of the VFW and a life time member of the Knights of Columbus. Leonard was also involved in scouting for 40 plus years.
