William O. Woldmoe was born on December 14, 1914, the son of Henry and Josephine (Freed) Woldmoe at Hampden, ND where he was reared and educated in the Hampden schools. Bill was united in marriage to Marie Simon on October 14, 1937 at Devils Lake, ND. They established their home on the Woldmoe farm, Northfield Township, rural Hampden where Bill would farm most of his life. When Bill wasn’t farming, he and his son, Lyle were busy as carpenters. They built every building on the Woldmoe farm, including their houses, garages, shops, Quonsets, etc. Bill was usually delegated as the finish carpenter. Bill was also part of the crew for many other Hampden building projects including the Hampden Gymnasium and other remodeling projects.
Without a doubt, Bill was truly dedicated to the promotion of steam power. He built to scale a working steam engine that was always on display at the Prairie Winds and Power Show at their request. Bill was a part of every Prairie Winds and Power Show at Hampden and made sure his grandchildren and great grandchildren were also well educated in steam power. He also attended the New Rockford Steam Threshers Show for many years.
