Violet M. DuBois, 82 of Devils Lake, ND passed away at her home on Thursday, September 2, 2010.
A Wake for Violet will be held at the Crow Hill Recreation Center, rural Fort Totten on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 beginning at 5:00 p.m. The procession to Crow Hill will leave at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday from Wal-Mart.
Mass of Christian Burial for Violet will be held at Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Fort Totten, ND on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Fr. Charles Leute O.P. will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Jerome’s Catholic Cemetery, rural Fort Totten.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Violet will be DJ Thumb, BJ Robertson, Clay DuBois Jr., Chris Greywater, Kyle DuBois, Keanu Corveau, Gary Thumb Jr., Troyal Thumb, Leon DuBois and John DuBois Jr.

Violet Mae was born on March 17, 1928 at Fort Totten, ND the daughter of Charles and Grace (Charboneau) Herman. She grew up on the Spirit Lake Nation and attended the Calvary Square School at Fort Totten and the Little Flower School at St. Michael, ND.
Violet was united in marriage to Edwin M. DuBois on April 5, 1948 at Moorhead, Minnesota. They established their home in Fort Totten. In 1950 they moved to Fargo and in 1954 to Minneapolis. In 1958 the family returned to Fort Totten. Violet worked at Sioux Manufacturing, St. Jude’s Home, the Two Spot Café in Devils Lake and for many years, Violet worked in the Housekeeping Department at Mercy Hospital. From 1982 to 1989, Violet and Edwin lived in Minnewaukan, then moving to Devils Lake where they made their home through the years. Edwin passed away on November 5, 2001.
For many years and at the time of her death, Violet was a Foster Grandmother and worked at the Heartland Care Center Day Care. This job was a blessing to Violet and even more of a blessing to the many children and adults to whom she was known as “Grandma”. But there was never a shortage of love and caring from Grandma Violet, who treasured every moment she was able to spend with her own children and grandchildren. Violet also enjoyed time with friends at the Casino and playing Bingo.
Violet leaves behind her loving family. Her daughters, Mary and her husband Jay Robertson of Devils Lake, Violet “Pinky” and her husband Burton Robertson of Fort Totten, Audrey Greywater also of Devils Lake, Grace and her husband Darrel “Duke” Thumb of Oberon; sons, Clayton DuBois and his wife Myra and John DuBois all of Devils Lake, Louie DuBois and his wife Yvonne “Hopsty” of Fort Totten, Travis DuBois of St. Michael; many grandchildren and great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren also survive; sister Bernadine and her husband Gene Hager of Minnewaukan; brother D. Calado of Salinas, California; sister-in-law Evelyn Marcil of Minneapolis, MN; many nieces, nephews and their families; special buddies Pugsley and Chloe;
Violet was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Edwin; sons Edwin DuBois Jr. and Dale DuBois and two sisters in infancy.
Thank you to Lake Region Law Enforcement and everyone that was there to support us in our time of sorrow. We appreciate the gifts and prayers from all that remembered our mother, sister, aunt, grandma and friend. She will be missed dearly.
