Ethel A. Jacobson (Edwards), daughter of John & Ada (Pals) Edwards died on April 2, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Home in Devils Lake. She was 98.
Mass of Christian Burial for Ethel will be held on Thursday, April 8, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. Dale Kinzler will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church from 11:00 a.m. until time of the Mass with a Rosary Service at 1:15 p.m. led by the Catholic Daughters.
Ethel was born on November 30, 1911, at LaMoure, ND. After graduating from LaMoure High School, she attended Valley City State College. She taught school for several years at a LaMoure County rural school.
On January 2, 1934, she married Minor (Jake) Jacobson. He operated Red Owl stores in LaMoure, Bottineau, and Rugby, North Dakota, before moving to Devils Lake, in 1944. They owned and operated the Fairway Foods store there for many years.
She helped organize the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, and served as the first treasurer. She was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church and served several terms as treasurer of the Altar Society. She was a life-long member of the Catholic Daughters. She was also a member of the Girl Scout Council for many years.
Ethel is survived by her four daughters, Marlene (Joe) Loonam of Olympia, Washington, Darla (Don) Elvrum of Bloomington, Minnesota, Judy (Martin) Glynn of Grand Forks, ND, Susan (Wayne) Berg of Fargo, ND and one son, John (Marlene) Jacobson also of Bloomington as well as 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Minor, in 1990, four brothers, two sisters, and one son-in-law.
