Calvin joined the United States Army on August 31, 1948 and served his country in Korea and was part of the Inchon Invasion. He was honorably discharged at Camp McCoy on May 28, 1952 with the rank of corporal. Calvin was united in marriage to Gerd Sund on August 1, 1959 at Pickert, ND. They established their home on the family farm at Sutton, ND. This would be their home only for a short time due to Calvin’s life work as a grain elevator employee and manager. They lived in many towns in North Dakota including, Napoleon, Sawyer and since 1975 in Alsen. Calvin officially retired from the elevator in 1985, but he never retired from farming and being a steward of the soil and raising various livestock through the years. He worked for several area farmers through the years, at John Finnseth’s Poultry and most recently had continued to help his son Clyde on the farm. While living in Napoleon, Calvin was active in the American Legion and Lions Club. Calvin was never one to sit and contemplate life. He lived life, always on the go, always working on a project that needed to be done. He had spent many hours doing genealogy research and had enjoyed trying his hand at grafting trees and making homemade wine. Calvin worked hard to provide for his family and treasured the time he was able to spend with his children and grandchildren. Calvin leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Gerd; children, Derrall Myers and his wife, Lue of Hampden, ND, Clyde Myers and his wife, Lisa of Alsen and Scherry and her husband, Dale Ingle of Fayetteville, North Carolina; grandchildren, Justin Myers, Aaron Myers and Courtney Myers; Kendall Myers, Karlee Myers and Brett Myers; Samantha Ingle and Tiffany Ingle and great granddaughter, Trinity Myers; brother, Marvin Myers and his wife, Lillian of Cooperstown, ND; sister, Adline Gustafson of Aneta, ND and sister-in-law, Alice Myers of Binford, ND; many nieces, nephews and their families also survive.
