James Heisler

James “Jim” Heisler, 79 of Devils Lake formerly of Cando and Egeland, ND died at his home on Thursday afternoon, September 7, 2006 surrounded by his loving and caring family. Mass of Christian Burial for Jim will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. C.F. Wilhelm will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 8:00 p.m. with the Rosary led by Daniel Heisler. Visitation on Tuesday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass in the Mother Theresa Hall. Serving as Casket Bearers for Jim will be his nephews, Joe F. Heisler Jr., Daniel Heisler, Ray Belford, Rich Hunt, Mark Krebsbach and David Hettwer. Music will be provided by Brian Michaelenko, Violinist and JoDee Lagein, Organist Reading the Scriptures will be Stephanie Starr, Great Granddaughter and Ranetta Starr, Granddaughter Gift Bearers are Jim’s Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. James was born at Barton, ND on June 23, 1927, the son of Frank and Frances (Ripplinger) Heisler. At the age of 7, he moved with his parents to Starkweather and attended school in Cavalier County. He worked as an electrician for Edmore Electric for several years. Jim was united in marriage to Alice Gangl on September 28, 1949 at Starkweather. They established their home on a farm southeast of Egeland where they farmed for 45 years. They later moved to Cando and in 1999 moved to Devils Lake. Even though Jim had retired from farming, his love of the land couldn’t keep him away and for many years, he would help Mark Blanchfield with his farming operation. Jim was a former member of Assumption Catholic Church, Starkweather and Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Cando and now a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church since moving to Devils Lake. He was also a life time Elks Lodge member. Jim loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and enjoyed many other sports and made a point of keeping up with all the activities of his children and grandchildren. Jim was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and any time spent with his family and friends was considered most precious. Jim is survived by his wife of 57 years, Alice Children: Barbara Gau and her husband, Rick, Devils Lake Donald Heisler and his wife, Glenda, Hokes Bluff, Alabama Michael Heisler and his wife, Carol, Haven, Kansas Sandra Curry and her husband, Mark, St. Albans, West Virginia William Heisler and his wife, LeAnn, Devils Lake Douglas Heisler and his wife, DeeLynn of East Grand Forks, Minnesota Lisa Heck and her husband, Randall, Devils Lake Ten Grandsons and Nine Granddaughters Three Great Grandsons and Six Great Granddaughters Brothers and Sisters: Joe (Eunice) Heisler, Minnesota Dorothy Johnson, Michigan John (Marian) Heisler, California Kenneth (JoAnn) Heisler, California Kosmos (Bea) Heisler, Washington Helen (Earle) Trenda, Washington Irene (Elsworth) Briesmeister, California Frank (Martha) Heisler, California Pete (Jackie) Heisler, Minnesota Elaine (Clayton) Hettwer, North Dakota Sister-In-Law: Myrna Heisler, North Dakota Brother-In-Law: Ed Weber, California Many Nieces and Nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Jennifer Heisler; great granddaughter, Dahlia James Heisler; brothers, Joseph and Eugene Heisler; sister, Mary Weber.
