Frances Dettling Pfeifer, 90 of Florence, Oregon formerly of Devils Lake, ND died on Monday, August 23, 2010 at Florence.
Mass of Christian Burial for Frances will be held on Monday, August 30, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. Dale Kinzler will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Monday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass.
Frances was born to Jacob and Margaret (Ziegler) Schell July 4, 1920 in Devils Lake, N.D. She attended school there and also in Orrin, N.D. She married Leo Dettling in 1937 in Devils Lake and raised two daughters Margaret and Shirley. Leo passed away in 1977.
Frances worked at F.W. Woolworth Co. for twenty years, retiring in 1980, when she married Peter Pfeifer. Peter passed away in 1994.
Frances was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, St. Joseph’s Altar Society, Lady Foresters and V.F.W Aux. all in Devils Lake, N.D.
In 2001 Frances went to live with her daughter, Margaret in Florence, OR. In Florence she was a member of St. Mary Our Lady of the Dunes Catholic Church, and for a brief time before her stroke, a member of Peace Harbor Hospital Aux. and the Florence Garden Club. She was a resident at Elderberry Square Residential Care Facility for the part 7 ½ years.
Frances is survived by her daughters, Margaret Miller of Florence OR, and Shirley and husband Joseph Jordan of Owosso, Mich. A step-daughter, Debra and her husband Mel Dalton of Glendale, Ca. Three granddaughters, Lori and her husband Robert Brekke of Littleton, Co. Nancy and her husband Mike Mowry of Lakewood, Co. Also Jennifer and husband Jason Rapson of Mason, Mi. Eight great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, three step grandchildren, and two step great grandchildren, one sister, Colleen Tyler, and two sister-in-laws Mary Brady and Veronica Dettling and many nieces and nephews.
Frances was proceeded in death by her husbands Leo and Peter, her granddaughter Debra Moritz, grandsons, Michael Moritz and Jason Jordan, great grandson, Matthew Moritz, her parents, four brothers and one sister.
Burns’s Riverside Chapel Florence Oregon Funeral Home and the Gilbertson Funeral Home are in charge of arrangements.
