Mildred “Mickey” Wass, 82 of Devils Lake, ND formerly of Starkweather, ND died on Monday, September 4, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Assumption of Mary Catholic Church, Starkweather. Fr. Tony Hession will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in the Assumption Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Friday, September 8, 2006 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 5:00 p.m. Visitation on Saturday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. .
Mildred Imogene Decker was born to Asa and Hallie (Flunar) Decker on November 11, 1923 in Wayne County, Illinois. She was reared and educated at Johnsville, Illinois and St. Louis, Missouri. Mildred was married to Donald Wass on March 30, 1946 in St. Louis, Missouri. They moved to the Starkweather-Garske area in December of 1946. Mickey worked at KB Café in Starkweather for a time. In September of 1967, they moved into Starkweather where they resided until January of 2000 when health issues made it necessary for them to move to the Good Samaritan Center in Devils Lake. Donald died on April 5, 2006.
Mickey was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Starkweather. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, and crocheting. She had a talent for listening to and helping people of all ages. Mickey babysat children of family and friends and developed a grandmother-like relationship with many of them including Cory Wass (Jerilyn) of Starkweather, Leigh Ann Jenkins (Paul) of The Woodlands, TX, and Sheila Schlafmann (Jay) of Quantico, Maryland.
Mildred is survived by her foster son, Mark Larimore and his wife, Debbie and their son Kyle.
