Lyle C. Schlieve, 84 of rural Webster, ND died on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, South Dakota.
Funeral Services for Lyle will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. Rev. Harold Ovre will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Lake Region Honor Guard, Camp Grafton.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Lyle will be his nephews, Todd Schlieve, Terry Schleive, Dwaine Schlieve, Brian Schlieve, Gary Johnson, Daryl Johnson, Richard Ralston, Gerald Ralston, Ronald Ralston and Jeff Schlieve.
Honorary Bearers will be Lyle’s nieces, Linda Baker, Marlene Knetter, Lori McCardle, Karen Young, Judy Plemel, Janet Thompson, Brenda Barstad, Michelle Kupitz, Tammy Elshaug and Connie Regan.

Lyle Curtis was born on March 20, 1924 at Knox, ND the son of Robert and Mary (Jones) Schlieve. He was reared and educated in the York. As a young man, he made his home on the farm and helped his parents with the farming. On June 12, 1945 Lyle entered the United States Army Air Corp at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. He took his basic training at Amarillo, Texas. He served his country during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, Hawaii as an airplane mechanic. On January 1, 1947, Lyle was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant.
After his discharge, Lyle returned to North Dakota and resumed farming with his Dad and brother, Leonard in several different areas, including Knox, Minnewaukan, Warwick and Webster. When his Dad passed away in 1964, Lyle and Leonard continued the farming operation at rural Webster until retiring in 1994. Since 1960, Lyle, along with his brother, Leonard had spent the winter months in Westlaco, Texas.
Lyle was a life member of the NRA and American Legion. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Disabled American Veterans.
Lyle was an outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. When indoors, Lyle enjoyed playing cards. Lyle loved spending time with his family and friends both here in North Dakota and in Texas. He especially enjoyed all the babies and little children that were a part of the family.

Sisters: Mildred Johnson and her husband, Lloyd and Hazel Ralston also of Devils Lake
Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mabel Brown; nephew, Scott Schlieve and brothers-in-law, Henry Brown and Gerald Ralston.
