Deborah was born on August 13, 1966, the daughter of Ron Journey and Norma (Kivett) Berry in Newberg, Oregon where she was raised and educated, graduating from Newberg High School in 1984. Deb then began a life of caring and ministering to the needs of others first as a nursing assistant at a Cancer Treatment Center in Washington and later working in a maternity ward in Texas. In December of 2004, Deb moved to Devils Lake and attended Lake Region State College and after graduating in May of 2005 and completing her State Board Examination she worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Mercy Hospital until the time of her death.
Deb was united in marriage to Toby Hoffner on June 20, 2006 and they established their home in Devils Lake. Deb enjoyed gardening, especially growing vegetables and in turn she used those home grown vegetables in her cooking. She loved to share a home cooked meal with her family and friends. As much as she loved to cook and garden, she had a special place in her heart for her miniature dachshund “Bob”.
Deb was a loving, caring, generous person whose heart was rooted in caring for others. She was a devoted wife, loving daughter, sister, aunt and dear friend to many. Her concern was always for others and that is the legacy she has left and we will forever hold her memory in our hearts.
